Our very own Ann Kozma says, "I really don't use Google Keep, you guys. What are your favorite things about it?" Kelly and I set out to share all our favorite features of this amazing, yet sometimes overlooked, Google tool.

Cynthia's Tips

It's Device Agnostic

You can use Google Keep from any device! Access it on your computer from keep.google.com. There is an app for your phone too!

iOS and Android

Mobile View

Notes are Sharable

You can share your Keep notes with other Google users and collaborate together!

Click on the share icon on the bottom of your note. You can do this when you start your note, or later on after you have created it.

Type in the email address of the person you'd like to share your note with.

After you share the note, you'll see the person's profile picture on the bottom of your note.

Keep Notepad in Docs, Slides, and Drawings

You can open up your Keep Notepad inside of Google Docs, Slides, and Drawings. Just click on the "Tools" menu across the top and choose "Keep notepad" from the menu.

Once you open your notepad, you can drag the content from your notes right into your document, presentation, or drawing.

Kelly's Tips

Have Google Keep Open Automatically When You Open Chrome

It is so helpful to have your Keep notes be the first thing you see when you open up Chrome in the morning. It helps "keep" you on track!

To do this, open up all the tabs you'd like to have open automatically for you, in the order you'd like them to open (so make sure Keep is the first one) and then click on the little three dots menu in the upper right corner of Chrome and choose settings.

Scroll down until you see the "On startup" section. Choose "Open a specific page or set of pages" and then click on the "Use current pages" link.

Done! Now those pages will open each time you open Google Chrome.

Pin a Note to the Top

For notes you don't want to lose track of, you can pin them to the top of the page.

Mouse over the note you'd like to pin, and click on the little pushpin icon that appears in the upper right of the note.

Now your note will always appear in the "Pinned" section at the top of the page.

Reminders Based on Location

Google Keep can remind you about a note based on your location. This is especially handy if you need to remember to do a certain thing once you get to a certain place.

To set a location based reminder, click on the little reminder icon (string around a finger) on the note you'd like to be reminded about.

Click on "Pick place" from the menu and you can set your location. You will then be reminded about that note the next time you arrive at that location.

As you can see, you could also choose a date and time to be reminded.

Color Coding Notes

Color coding notes can be very helpful! I like to use color coding to set priority on my notes. Cynthia uses color to show categories of notes. You can use color however you'd like!

To set the color on a note, click on the little painter's palette icon and choose your color! You can do this when you first write the note or later on after it has been created.

Google Keep Extension

The Google Keep extension is a MUST HAVE extension if you are a Google Keep user. It allows you to save a website to your Keep notes with just a few clicks. Head on over to the Chrome Web Store and search "Keep" or click here. Click the blue "Add to Chrome" button and install the extension.

Now when you visit a website you'd like to put in a note, just click on the Keep extension icon and make your note. It will add it directly to your Keep Notepad. It's like magic!
