Welcome to the Team Page of Edina Nordic!
Nordic Lettering Policy: To be eligible for an Edina Nordic Athletic Letter a skier must ski at the Varsity Designated Race Level for at the minimum of over one half of the available scheduled races. If the number of races is not an even number then the skier must ski in the larger number of races available. At least one of those races must be at the Varsity Classic Level.
If a skier is one race short to qualify for an Athletic Nordic Letter, a race at the JV1 level on the same course as the Varsity, and the same distance as the Varsity, can be used if their time is as faster than the 13th Edina Varsity Skier who finishes.
If the above situation is not possible due to illness, injury, or a shortage of Varsity Race slots, a public ski race of 10K or longer that happens during the High School Nordic Season, would be considered. Results must be published and made available to the Head Coach to qualify. City of Lakes Loppet, Mora Vasaloppet, or other races qualify in the 10K or longer race category.
*New this year: If you volunteer to help out the Edina MYSL/ Ski Werks or other similar nordic youth program consistently over the winter season ~you can use this service for one varsity start to help you qualify for a Varsity Letter.
Attendance at Nordic Practice is also considered in lettering and large ski meet selection. All Skiers should try to maintain 75% attendance on average. Racing, optional additional practices (winter break practices, extra evening or early morning intervals, etc.) and can be "banked" over a two week period to meet attendance lettering requirements. ~Illness and other factors will be considered but the skier must communicate to the head coach within the two week time frame. Multiple infractions can result in removal of their team placement, lettering, and involvement in the team.
It is expected that the skier attend Nordic Practice consistently and communicate with the coaches when missing practices.
JNQ races, travel and qualified Club Practices can be considered excused and MUST be communicated to the Head Coach before the event. If a Club skier can maintain on average two practices per week, or a combination of practices and races along with their three days a week club team practices and JNQ races, we will consider this a minimum participation at the Edina High School Nordic Level. Club skiers are also included in Banking practices, but must also be held to the two week rule as explained above. Communication is the key here! ~ Illness and other factors will be considered but the skier must communicate to the head coach within the two week time frame. Multiple infractions can result in removal of their team placement, lettering, and involvement in the team.
~It is the club skiers responsibility to communicate to the coaches!
Balance and communication are the key to making High School Skiing, Club Skiing and Edina Academics work!
Not racing in JNQ Races, but skiing with a club ski team... then you are under the same rules as others who are participating in other clubs and activities. Maintain three practices per week including races over every week. Yes, you can bank your time at Edina Nordic over a two week period, but remember to keep your attendance up to date and communicate with the head coach.
Seniors in Good Standing (SIGS) : Edina Nordic has a long tradition of presenting an athletic letter to those seniors who demonstrate a commitment to the program of three years or longer, who attend practices regularly, and participate in races. You must race in OVER half of the races provided by the Lake Conference at any level and you must race in at least one Classic Race! *If we have 8 races available at your level you need to ski in 5 or more... There are some JV or Varsity only races so plan ahead and communicate with your coaches. One 10Km citizen race can be substituted into the above requirement to meet the overall Senior In Good Standing and it must happen in the regular High School Nordic Season to be eligible and the new volunteer bonus as described above can count.
***Honors and Section/ State Meet standards;
*If Athletic Lettering Honorable Mention awards are given; they will require participation in over one half of the possible races and one race must be classic.
Both the Lake Conference and Section/ State Ski meets maintain MSHSL rules on who can ski in the section/ State ski meet races and those that are eligible to receive Conference Honors.
Our lettering policy is basically the same as The Lake Conference Honors requirements.
Section skiers also must ski in Three Varsity Level High School Sponsored races.
