NORDIC is and outdoor sport! Dress to workout outside!
Layers are the key! The temperature outside is your guide.
"There isn't bad weather just bad clothing!"
*** Remember… Nordic is an outdoor sport! So check the weather forecast and dress appropriately EACH DAY!***
What should I wear to practice?
Dryland (no snow): Let the Temperature be your guide/ wear running shoes, shorts or tights or ski pants depending upon the temperature. Wear long sleeves, and a windbreaker/ jacket, gloves, hat or headband and have warmer layers (think puffy coat) to put on before and after a workout.
On SNOW!!: You will want warm clothes (think layers) for our warm ups and technique drills. When you are skiing, you will shed layers, but again think temperature... what works for you? Breathable layers are best! An outer breathable windproof layer is recommended.
Long sleeves shirts and jackets
Ski pants or tights
Wool or synthetic socks
Gloves, lobster mitts or mittens... *Most skiers have a light to mid-weight pair of gloves and a lobster mitt or a full mitten for colder temperatures. Some even have over mitts for an added layer over a glove.
Hats or headbands, ear muffs, etc. We require you have something on your head at 20 degrees!
Base layers/long underwear come in different weights. Light and mid-weight work best. Guys should purchase wind briefs.
In extreme cold you will add layers on top.
Hand and toe warmers can really make a difference on cold days.
Race rules prohibit metal jewelry at colder temps.
Race Uniform: EHS provides you with a race uniform for the season. You need to return it at the end of the season.
You are required by MSHSL and conference rules to be in a school issued race uniform at races. There are logo rules on logos for hats that also must be followed. Consult the coaches for examples of acceptable headwear! Keep a log as to what you wear at practice and for races and what the temperature it was to remember what works and when!
