June 15th Poor Air Quality Cancels Summer Nordic Practice!
This is the first time a summer Nordic practice has been canceled due to wild fire smoke/ unhealthy air quality. A make up session will be scheduled for later in the summer season.
The wax room is cleaned out for demolition!

Here is the information:

Our sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 AM in June and July.+ weather related make up sessions.
*No sessions July 3-7 (MN state HS league rules: No coach contact during that time period.)
It is $195 for all 14 Summer Nordic Sessions! That’s less than $14 per session for a two hour session! AND.. It includes a cool summer nordic t-shirt!
Summer Nordic is open to skiers who are going into Grades 9-12 for fall of 2023. Skiers need to have participated on a Winter Nordic Team and raced at a High School Ski Meet.
Once we know the potential numbers of participants we can finalize summer nordic plans. We have to obtain and purchase insurance and request reservations for our group at Hyland Lake Park. We generally start as a whole group and then we break into smaller learning groups. For example; advanced roller skiers may do hill repeats as part of a session while beginning roller skiers might be working on safety on roller skis. (Learning first to stop safely under ALL conditions.)
Summer Nordic Waiver Print this out, fill it out and bring to first paractice.
Sessions are: Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:30-9:30 AM
June: 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29.
* No sessions July 3-7 (MN state HS league rules: No coach contact during that time period)
July 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27.
Sessions will be held at Three Rivers Hyland Lake Park. We generally meet at Jan’s Place. Sessions will include strength work, core work, agility and roller skiing. Participation in EHS Summer Nordic does not influence placement on the team for EHS Winter Nordic in any way. It is just another opportunity to become more proficient at the sport.

Racing took place in Fairbanks Alaska in a variety of distances and styles and
Andrew raced in the U-20 category and represented the Midwest Team.

Our Potluck is coming up on Tuesday, February 28th! We have a lot to celebrate! We had two skiers ski in the State Meet, placing 3rd and 11th. There were many skiers,coaches and parents skiing in the Birkebeiner Events, including a 3rd place finish in the Korteloppet for Jace H.

Uniform/Gear Turn in: If you haven’t turned in your race suit uniform or rental equipment.. Coach Mark and Coach Christine will be there early from 5:45-6:15 PM to take this gear. Come early! We will again have a LOST and FOUND table AND t-shirt or apparel pick up if you have missed that.

State Meet: Feb. 15 and 16 at Giant’s Ridge, Biwabik, MN
CONGRATULATIONS to Senior Andrew D. for placing 3rd and to Sophomore Jace H. for placing 11th in the Pursuit Race at the State Meet! That's a 5K classic race, followed by a 5K skate race. Pursuit is a combined time for those two races. Well DONE!!

Edina Public Schools has cancelled all activities and closed buildings starting Wednesday, December 21st at 2:00 and continuing Thursday, 12/22 and Friday 12/23.

**If you requested a Three Rivers Discounted ski trail pass, we received those in the mail and will pass those out at Practice on MONDAY, December 19th. Three Rivers requires you to wear your 3 Rivers pass while skiing starting on Monday! If you do not have a pass and you ski at any Three Rivers Park , you must purchase a daily ski trail pass at the Visitor’s Center!

Parents of Middle School Skiers READ THIS!: New POLICY on dropping off skis: We have inundated the Main Office Staff, so we have a new policy…Check in at Door 5 and they will instruct you to walk the skis to the Activities Office.
**If you requested a Theodore Wirth Discounted ski trail pass, you received info to use that code on Dec. 4th via email. Use that code by Dec. 15th and purchase your ski trail pass for $50, or you will have to pay full price at $90!

Nordic Weekly Update for the Week of November 28- Dec. 2, 2022
We have a full week of practice this week! Tasks for the week: Spentz hill bounding workout (skate style), squats, core & strength everyday, TRX workouts, Tire pull, race uniform distribution (starting with VARSITY SKIERS), try to fit the rest of the rental request skiers. We did 34 over two rental nights! We will continue to prepare to race.
Our First Potential Race is Tuesday, December 6th at Elm Creek.

Pole Hike Friday, Nov. 25th is in the books. We had an awesome turnout and incredible effort! The total was 1 hour 5o minutes of hiking, bounding, and fun~ Way to Go Skiers!

We had a very good first week of practice! This week is a shorter/Holiday week! The Podium Wear Store Closed last night. The General Sports Store is open until Nov. 25th. Apparel purchases are optional ~ not required.

Monday, November 21st: Dress to be outside (It is an outdoor sport!) Meet in the Athletic Atrium! We are monitoring the marginal snow conditions and will adjust practices accordingly. We have lots of strength work, core and ski specific skills to work on, whether we are on skis or not.

Friday, November 25th: Optional Practice: Mark has applied for a practice through 3 Rivers at Hyland for a dryland pole hike from 9:30-11:30 AM. We have not heard back, but will update ASAP! This practice is for those skiers capable of completing a 2 Hour Pole Hike.

Nordic Practice Starts on Monday, November 14th!!
Monday's plan: Locker and Tour Day No outdoor work out.
HIGH SCHOOL: * Captains report early to get lockers and plan.
3:40 Start time.. *We will most likely end early after you get your locker and answers to questions you may have.
Introduction of the coaches, captains, expectations, clothing and locker distribution.
Check in: Skiers check in with Coach Christine to confirm they are registered and paid with Edina Public Schools for a Winter Activity. You will not receive your locker or be able to practice with the team unless you are registered! *If you register Monday and are not on our list, we may have you go up to the Activities’ Office to confirm your registration. *
If confirmed, you will get a post it note from Coach Christine.
Show the post it note to get a locker # from Coach Tyler (Guys) or Coach Abby (Ladies).
Coach Tyler or Coach Abby will write your locker # and combination on your post it note. Then go try it!
Order of getting lockers/ or how to line up:
Section skiers, Conference Championship, Varsity, JV1, JV2, and then all others.
Captains help skiers in locker rooms with lockers.
Captains can give tours to new HS skiers if there is time.
Middle School: ***4:15 Valley View will start to arrive. Captains will help them find their way! 4:25 ish Captain(s)/Coach(es) will help meet the bus from South View
Regular Practice is 4:30-5:30 *We hope practice will end a bit early.
Gather in the Athletic Atrium. Where the locker rooms are and the trophy cases near the lower level main gyms.
Introduction : Coaches, skiers, and Captains, and to the group and go over what will happen next.
Check in: Coach Christine will check skiers in Middle School Skiers on Edina Public Schools Winter Activity Roster. If confirmed, skiers will be given a post it note to give to Coach Thomas (guys) or Coach Abby (ladies). Coach Thomas and Coach Abby will write your locker # and combination on the post it note paper. Captains will help with the lockers.
Tour of Important Nordic Spots:
When locker distribution is done the captains take different groups for a tour of the best Nordic spots. Wax Room, Ski Storage, Storing band instruments, door 10 and 13, and the door 5 and 6 areas. *We will try to end a bit early on this first day of practice.
