Congratulations to our Guys' Nordic Team for placing 9th overall in the Nordic State Meet!

 Our two day ski meet at Giants Ridge near Biwabik MN, was a success. They held the event on the downhill machine made snow using the base and uphills to create a great and challenging 2.5 km loop for the Pursuit skiers  who skied a 5km classic race and then a 5km skate race. The Sprint Race then used the toughest part of the pursuit course to make a 1.2km sprint course including the huge, long, uphill followed by a fast downhill into the exchange zone.

The pursuit skiers, Jace H,  Everrett O, Charlie G, Andrew G, and Andrew H, had strong races! Jace H. placed 6th as an overall individual and got to stand on the podium.  Sprint Team members Liam G and Isaac M took on the massive uphill and fast down hill the next day and The Guys Team finished strong with as 9th place overall in the State Meet!

Congratulations to Elin H, from the Ladies' Team! Elin skied two solid races placing 35th out 112 skiers and then stayed to cheer on the team with our other Super Fans who made the trip. 

Congrats to all on a very successful Nordic Season, despite the crazy lack of snow.

Nordic News Update for Feb. 11-28th 2024: 

Our Guys Team is headed to the State Meet! The Guys placed Second at our Section 2 Meet on Feb. 6th. Our Ladies Team had a strong finish, finishing 4th. Elin H. qualified as an individual Ladies Pursuit Skier, so the Guys Team: Jace H., Everett O.,Charlie G., Andrew G, Andrew H., Liam G., Isaac M., and Ladies Team Member : Elin H. will be heading to the State Meet at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik, MN Feb. 14- Feb. 15th.  

EHS or Edina Nordic Gear:  While we do have State Meet skiers heading to the Meet next week, we do need ALL other Edina Nordic Skiers to return any school issued items ASAP!

Nordic News Weekly Update for Feb. 5-9, 2024: 

Our Lake Conference Varsity Championships was held on Thursday, Feb. 1 at Hyland. It was epic! Slow, quicksand like snow and sunny, warm temps! Way to go to our Varsity Conference Championship Team! Our Ladies placed 2nd overall and the guys placed 4th.  All of the skiers displayed amazing strength, flexibility and grit! We are proud of you!

The Section Meet is Feb. 6th. This meet narrows the team down even further to 5 Varsity Skiers, 3 Varsity Pursuit Skiers per gender and 2 Varsity Sprinters per gender and 2 Alternates. The Section Meet will be MOVED TO Elm Creek Park.

Hornet Hoedown Info and help wanted:

We are looking for a parent volunteer or volunteers to coordinate a theme and collect donations for our Nordic Basket. Once we have a volunteer we will ask for donations and give more details about collection. Reach out to Coach Christine if you can help coordinate our basket. THANKS! The annual Edina Athletic Booster Club (EABC) fundraiser, the Hornet Hoedown, is on Saturday April 6. A reminder, the EABC is asking for help from each MSHSL sport team by submitting a team basket for the annual fundraiser. Submit your program's basket theme here. Theme sign-ups are due by February 1, 2024.

Team basket drop-off process: Thank you to all the captains’ parents and teams for helping support the booster club with their basket donations. This is key to the success of our gala event! We need your basket in advance in order to organize and take pictures to upload for the software on-line bidding process. Please plan to drop off your basket item at the EHS School Store/AD Office. We will start accepting baskets starting February 19. The EHS School store is open from 8 AM - 4 PM on school days. Enter EHS Door 5 during school hours.

We have a Very BUSY Week ahead!! We have 1 JV race left; (Jan. 30th will be our JV Championship on Tuesday). We are the hosts of this race. Our Varsity Conference Championships are on Thursday, Feb. 1 at Hyland. This race is for the top 14 Varsity Skiers per gender (skiers will ski both a 5km skate and 5km classic that day). 

The Section Meet is Feb. 6th the following week. This meet narrows the team down even further to 5 Varsity Skiers, 2 Varsity Sprinters per gender and 2 Alternates. The Section Meet will be held at Theodore Wirth Park. The Conference Championship Team and the Section Team are by Invitation from Head Coach Mark only.

We will ski until 8:30 and then have S’mores at Jan’s Place. 

• We will need some parent volunteers to provide charcoal, graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate for S’mores., AND to work the grills, assemble supplies, etc.  (Grills are at Jan’s Place.) 

• Skiers who owe candy tax should bring S’more Supplies to Thursday’s practice to give to Coaches for this event.

Nordic News Weekly Update for January 15-19, 2024: 

 Last week was an Epic week for Edina Nordic! We had 2 meets  during the week and the Wirth/Loppet Invitational on Saturday. Wirth/Loppet Invitational Results and photos. Hats off to all of the skiers who raced this week! Our skiers raced so well at Wirth in frigid temperatures! We had top 10  finishers in the 5K Ladies Classic,  5K Ladies’  Skate, 5K Guys Classic and the Guys Classic Sprint Relay!

Nordic News Weekly Update for January 8-13, 2024: Date: Jan.7, 2024   ~Hang on it’s going to be a busy week!

 For those who attended Winter Break Practices: Well Done! We gave a record number of beginner lessons and some of our advanced skiers were well over 100 KM’s!

Coaches worked with all levels of skiers and we had many skiers get out on classic skis for the first time also. It was great to see skiers showing up for practice at Hyland each day learning to improve technique and build a wide base of conditioning.

Nordic News Weekly Update (Dec. 29th): 

 We have had a great first week of Winter Break Practices! Despite rain, warm temperatures and family obligations, we have had a good turn out! From Varsity skiers getting in many kilometers to beginners learning their first ski skills, everyone did a great job! Next week (Jan. 2,3,4,5) We have practice sessions at Hyland reserved for Edina Nordic Skiers each day from 8:00-10:00 AM. You must sign up for each session to attend. We need to know who is attending and we need to place coaches accordingly. We work one on one or in small groups with beginners, so it can take coaches away from the rest of the group. Coaches are also working with all levels of skiers to develop a plan for each session, so that skiers get the most out of the time at Hyland each day. Please check in with Head Coach Mark to see what the plan is or develop a plan for your level.  We have many skiers at many different levels, so checking in at the start of each session is required. We cannot stress enough how important  this week is to skiers who are racing. They need to put in as many sessions as possible to build their on-snow time and be able to handle the racing next week!

You need a 3 Rivers Pass or purchase a daily ski trail pass at the Visitor’s Center.  We will meet at Jan’s Place. Be ready to ski at the start of practice.

Jan. 8th will be: Varsity Classic,  JV 1 Classic, JV 2 Classic.  They will also offer a JV 2 skate race too.  Most likely 2 laps of 2K for Varsity and JV 1.

Wednesday's Race is on and at Hyland at 3:30 PM. Jan. 10th will be Varsity Skate and JV 1 Skate and JV 2 Skate.  Who knows what they will have open and how many laps of the 1.8K skiers will do? Edina is the HOST of this meet.

Sadly, our beloved Senior Captain Sophia B. broke her wrist in a crash prior to making it to the start line. Ask her about trail etiquette violations shown by other teams. Nordic News Weekly Update for Dec. 17-22, 2023:

 We had our first Ski Meet at Elm Creek on Tuesday! Thank you, to all of the skiers who raced, and the parents for their support! We had some fantastic Varsity and JV results. Way to go! We also had a few first time racers and even some who had never been on snow, on skis!  Those new skiers went for their first race after a quick 5 minute lesson with coaches Matt and Cecie, they did great! We also had another week of dryland training, where is the snow and cold? Some veteran skiers have ventured to the machine made snow areas to get on snow and continue their training for the upcoming races. 

Our Lake Conference Race at Hyland Lake for Wednesday has been canceled due to lack of snow. Other race options for that week (Friday at Elm Creek) were not accepted by Three Rivers due to a full race schedule. Hyland does have .8K open, so you can ski there with your 3 Rivers Pass, but they cannot hold a race or practice until they have more trails open. 

Special Invite Race:  Head Coach Mark was able to get  some of our Varsity skiers into an Invitation ONLY Race on Wednesday at Battle Creek. Skiers have been invited. We might be reaching out to more skiers as RSVP’s come in.

Release time will depend upon the bus situation. Stay tuned if you are racing!

Winter Break Practices: We have our requests in to 3 Rivers for Winter Break Practices Dec. 26-29 and Jan. 2-5 at Hyland Lake, but we are waiting to hear back due to lack of snow. Stay tuned. We will have to be flexible and adjust to this snow deficit situation. We will make sure that new skiers get proper introduction to skating lessons and will use time slots for new skiers, and Middle School Skiers.

Rental Request Update: We made a lot of progress in fitting our 37 FIRST YEAR SKIER ~ Rental Requests! We are working on 2nd year skiers and beyond!  If you are a 2nd, 3rd, 4th year skier and beyond… just know that we are running VERY LOW on boots! It really depends upon the skier’s foot size if we will have any boots.

It was great to have a full week of practices! The skiers are doing a fantastic job of staying mentally tough as we enter our 4th week of dryland training! We continue to see great participation at all levels! Our team size is currently 130+ SKIERS!! Remember the work we put in now is building our strength and endurance base so that we can achieve better results at the end of our race season~ Build the base wide to support higher results later!

Nordic News Weekly Update for: Nov. 27-Dec. 1st: 

We had another great week! Even though we had a shorter week with the Holiday on Thursday, we had a great turn out at all of our practices!  We also had great participation at our optional sessions of Roller Skiing on Weds. and a 2+ hour Pole hike on Friday with hill bounding!  (See Photos Below.)This work is building our strength and endurance base so that we can achieve better results at the end of our race season~ Build the base wide to support higher results later!

This Monday we will finally get into our Ski Storage Room, so we can begin to look at FIRST YEAR SKIER Rental disbursements. Please look for an email inviting your FIRST YEAR SKIER to a fitting (based on the time stamped rental request form order.)

We will do race suit/uniform distribution and a core/squat workout. Be dressed to be outside. 

Middle School Practice: 4:30-5:30 PM

We will do race suit/uniform distribution at the beginning of practice. Workout TBD by MS Coaches so come dressed to be outside..

Race Uniform day is rescheduled to November 27th due to Football Team/ Fall Sports needs.

Nordic News:

We had a great first week of Nordic Practice! We are nearly complete with our locker assignments. Started the storage room wax room transformation. We did a core/body weight work out with 120 squats and 45 minutes of core, hill bounding repeats, over distance pole hike and some roller-skiing! We ended the week with an all team (MS and HS) Blob tag on Fun Friday!
