Digital Expressions of Learning
Weekly Overview
Welcome to week seven - and the introduction to our last project for the semester. Eight weeks is going by quickly, and so I hope you have been able to gain some insight into the integration of technology in education- a critical consideration of where, when, and how digital tools can provide for meaningful and authentic learning opportunities. Perhaps you picked up a few new tools and frameworks for thinking – or created a few things you can utilize in your classrooms moving forward. Thank you for your work during this course in educational technology – let’s end strong in these last two weeks as we enter the realm of story telling.
This week we focus on the development and creation of a Digital Story – building on humanities historical spreading of tales, teaching of lessons, and entertaining the masses. Think about the proliferation of storytelling apps on our cellphones, tablets, and computers – when is the last time you shared a funny story or insightful tid-bit of a lesson learned? A hot take on a situation, or how a particular song is just a whole mood. Put this in the context of education – storytelling is a foundation of our education system, and if we blend it with digital technology the opportunities may grow exponentially for learning opportunities in the classroom. How does AI push this further into new arenas of expression?
For the purposes of this class, you are going to make a digital story about your time in the course– providing a final reflection for the course and a final project where you also create a lesson idea/project for your students where they make a digital story as an assessment in your course content.
Learning Objectives
After the successful completion of this module, students will:
Explore the use of digital storytelling in the educational setting for learning and assessment.
Reflect on lessons from the semester to self assess their TPACK development.
Discuss the potential for educational technology in the coming decade.

How is Digital Storytelling Good Learning at your content/grade level?
How does Digital Storytelling help us fulfill the Purpose of Education?
2. 7 Elements of Digital Stories (PDF)
As you read, develop an idea where you can use a Digital Story in your own classroom – what content, unit, or lesson could result in a story that could be told digitally? Consider the different steps of the process, and reflect – what is your theme for this class? What is your story arc when you consider education and technology?
SEVEN PLOT LINES FOR STORYTELLING
Please consider this video of the plots you may use to tell your digital story - which story best encapsulates your experience with educational technology? Your story should follow one of these seven plots.
