Concepts for Investigation
Dear teachers, you have CHOICES in this quest! Which direction will you travel, into what concept will you dive deep to learn and share with your peers or school board?
The choice is YOURS!
Please read the overview for each, before selecting and diving into the resources to complete this quest.
(Each opens in a stand alone window so you can use it during the next page: PROCESS!)
Digital Divide: The first concept you may wish to investigate is that of the Digital Divide – Equity, Access and Use of technology. There is a documentary to watch – Without a Net, and a few professional readings to accompany it, with supporting websites. Ultimately, have you considered the issue of equity in your classroom as it pertains to technology? How can we begin to address the divide as teachers acting as advocates for students in our communities?
UDL: The next concept is Universal Design and Assistive Technology in the classroom. How could technology provide access to those with cognitive learning and physical disabilities – how can technology engage, enhance, and extend learning for those who - in the past and present - have been barred from a true educational experience of learning?
Digital Media Literacy: Last, there is the issue of Digital Media Literacy, a significant issue currently present in the news as well with the advent of Deep Fakes, and “fake news” views. What is okay to do with technology, and how should we use technology – when do we know something is real and true, versus something that has been created? Are we developing the skills to question and create meaningful digital products and act as digital citizens should? What is our responsibility as teachers? Technology is never neutral, and neither is teaching – what is your perspective?
