Technology Choices

Technology Choices

Throughout this course, students will be asked to use various technologies that will further guide the learning experience. Some of these technologies include:

  • YouTube

    • Some of the course material is taught through YouTube videos. Our rationale for this choice was because we felt that it is important to incorporate a wide range of multimedia learning resources, and some students are more engaged when learning through videos.

  • Google Groups

    • Google Groups is used to facilitate our discussion forums. We chose to use Google Groups because it was the simplest way to create a forum space where interactions between the learners and the instructors can occur.

  • Google Forms

    • Google Forms is used to create the summative assessments in our course in the form of quizzes. Our group chose to use Google Forms due to the ease of creating quizzes through their existing tools.

  • Online Real-Time HTML Web Editor by Jesse Ruderman

    • Students will be using this online HTML web editor tool created by Jesse Ruderman to complete the formative assessment activity in the HTML unit. The web editor is embedded into the web page, so students won't need to go to any external sources. The rationale for using this technology is that we want to give learners a chance to get hands-on with the concept they learn about, and having the tool right on our interactive learning resource for them to use simplifies this experience.

  • Online HTML and CSS Code Editor by CSSDeck

    • Students will be using this online HTML and CSS code editor tool created by CSSDeck to complete the formative assessment activity in the CSS unit. Similar to above, the code editor is embedded into the web page, so students won't need to go to any external sources. The rationale for using this technology is that we want learners to be able to try out and use CSS for themselves, thus using this tool gives them that opportunity.
