Considered the most popular locations to do PvE combat at, thanks to their abundance and low difficulty.
Resource Extraction Sites (shortened to RES) can be found in planet rings located in populated systems. In several systems a station exists right outside, or even inside the rings, allowing for very short restock runs. Most RES have a danger level attached to them.
In unmarked (medium), Low, and High class RES, police will spawn (as long as the system’s security isn’t Anarchy). High spawns bigger and better criminals, but even here they are constantly overwhelmed by the police forces, which ends up making those the best low risk and difficulty environment to conduct PvE combat in.
RES marked as Hazardous (shortened as HazRES) spawn no police, leaving the criminals to roam freely. They will still often pick on another. The overall difficulty of pirates spawned is slightly higher than in an RES marked as High, but in the grand scheme of things still very low.
Nav Beacons either are normal ones, or of the Compromised variety. Every populated system has one such location at the main star.
Normal Nav Beacons spawn few pirates, and primarily traders + police and a few bounty hunters. The proximity to the systems main star reduces the effective sensor range. The quality of pirates spawned is low, as a combination of those factors they are not a good place to hunt at.
Compromised Nav Beacons on the other hand don’t spawn police, and are known for spawning primarily high combat rank ships, which are still comparatively easy to take down. Outside of Thargoid scout farming they are possibly the best spot for grinding combat rank.
