For many additional options, including those that don't require Odyssey, see Other Great Ships.
The cheapest really capable combat ship, having enough survivability to survive under fire for long enough to either get the upper hand or flee, and having a decent distributor and good hardpoint placement to boot.
A frankly overpowered small combat ship, it out-damages most mediums and is extremely maneuverable. It's only slightly held back by its power distributor. Odyssey or ARX is required to purchase.
If you'd like something that costs between the Viper and Chieftain, see the Vulture or Cobra V.
Build notes:
Some modules are turned off by default and/or set to turn off when hardpoints are deployed.
The engineered build uses clean drives as the ship is already so maneuverable.
Another very maneuverable combat-oriented ship, this time a medium. Slightly better than the Kestrel, a fun stepping stone to the Python II.
The Challenger is a sturdier alternative.
The Python Mk II offers significant damage and maneuverable flight, but is relatively held back by its undersized power plant and distributor. If you don't have access to Pacifiers, then use gimbaled fragment cannons instead. Odyssey or ARX is required to purchase.
The Corsair is a much more versatile, but arguably not as combat-effective, alternative.
An insanely good PvE combat ship. It combines the best distributor of the game with great hardpoint placement, and very good (for PvE overkill) survivability. Only the handling is a definite step down from smaller options.
