  • Economics Bulletin has published a paper on "GLOBAL INEQUALITY IN LIFE EXPECTANCY: WHAT ROLE DOES INCOME INEQUALITY PLAY?" submitted by Nirajana Banerjee, Ritojeet Basu, Ananya De and Monalisa Poali (UG students of 2017-2020 batch).  It is an abridged version of their UG dissertation. Paper presentation/participation in workshops/students meet

  • Gunjan Lunia, UG Sem 3 student (batch of 2022-25) secured the 2nd position in the 'Ace the Case' competition organised by Maulana Azad College, Kolkata which was held on 26 April 2023.
  • Spandan Dutta, Nakshatra Ghosh, Annwesha Pal, UG Sem 3 students (batch of 2022-25) secured second position in 'Triviathon' organised by Ramkrishna Mission Residential College held on 29 April 2023.
  • Dikshita Saha, Subhangi Nandi and Laboni Gupta (PG 2021-2023 batch) had participated in the Model WTO 2022 organised by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade  on 26th May 2022. We are happy to anounce they were placed first in the event. 
  • Upanita Barman, UG fouth semester student, won the first prize in paper presentation at the Envisage - The Research Paper Presentation Competition organised as a part of Contrivance - The Hindu Consulting Summit, the annual flagship event of the Hindu College, Delhi University (February-March 2022).
  • Deepika Paul, UG fourth semester student, has a literary bend. She has published as a co-author in the anthologies: गुरू: एक प्रेरणा (September,2021); Love : Heals or Destroys? (January, 2022). She has also participated in the Online Arena Literary competitions: Pratibha Competition; Writing Challenge on 'Teacher's day' HINDI; Writing Challenge on 'Teacher's day' ENGLISH; English Writing Competion on 'Another Blank page of my life;  English Writing Competion on 'You could have at least said a goodbye' . She has also won second prize for her writing in English Writing Competion (World Environment Day); English Writing Competion; Hindi Writing Competion.
  • Students of Economics department participated in the Young Economists Students Meet organized by the Department of Economics, Jadavapur University, Kolkata held on 18, 19 & 20 February 2022. Upanita Barman, UG fourth semester student, won the first prize for her lecture on Hypothesis testing in the event "Proffing it". A team formed by Anushka Pal, Soumprity Pal Chowdhury and Oindrila Mukherjee, all UG fourth semester students, came second in the case study event "Analyse This". We congratulate them for their performance.
  • Upanita Barman, UG fouth semester student, presented a paper on "GOLD AS A FASCINATION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF INDIA AND UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DURING ECONOMIC CRISIS" at the National Economics Festival 2022, St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. We congratulate her for winning the first prize in the NC Ray Paper Presentation contest held on 12 February 2022.
  • Udita Bhattacharya, UG fourth semester student, participated in the Warwick Economic Summit (WES), organized by students of Warwick University, UK between 4-6 February 2022. We congratulate her for being awarded the Best Representative award and Best Spoken Technique award from the Forum Discussion.
  • Sweta Ghosh and Santarpana Nabick presented a paper titled "Agricultural dualism and globalisation: A General Equilibrium Model" at Confluence, organized by St. Xavier's University in September 2019.

  • Siddhi Rupareli, Ruchika Agarwal, Swarna Mallik, and Akriti Dalmia won the first prize in paper presentation at the Young Economists Students Meet 2019 organised by the Department of Economics, Jadavpur University, and held during 16-19 January 2019.
  • Atreyee Basu attended a Summer School in July 2016 (worth 2 ECTS) on “Experiments in Developing Countries: Methods and Applications” in the University Of Groningen under the guidance of Professor Robert Lensink, with a full scholarship provided by the University of Groningen as a part of its MoU with Presidency University.
  • Rahul Singh Chauhan had been to South Asian Economics Students Meet in 2016 (Colombo Conference) & 2017 (Kathmandu Conference). 
  • Anusha Paul, Debanjali Ghosh, Jhinuk Banerji and Puja Mukherjee won first prize for paper presentation at Arthatantra 2018  
  • Time varying beta, volatility and market stress: A comparison between India and US (Chakrabarti, G. and Das, R.) in the International Conference IFC 2017, IIM, Bangalore, 20-22 December, 2017 (Emerald Best Paper (Third) Award)
  • Debolina Chakrabarti presented paper “Policies and announcements of the NDA government in it's first year (May 2014 - May 2015) and their macroeconomic/sector implications” in the Reliance Industries' Limited's Treasury.
  • Anusree Chakraborty was awarded first position in "Analyze this" at "Young Economists Students' Meet 2016", organized by the department of economics, Jadavpur University on December 2015.
  • Kashyap Harlalka won the 2nd prize in the Best Manager competition Xavier’s Management Convention, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.
  • Arunabha Banerjee and Ritwik Ghosh won several quiz competitions across Kolkata.
  • Rishav Roy & Ayush Kashyap represented the University in the following quiz competitions: Brabourne College festival Quiz [attained 1st position], Quiz at Saturday Club [adjudged best college team], IRSC JU quiz [attained 3rd place], 2015.
  • Rishav Roy: First in both JU Fresher's Quiz and in Presi Fresher's Quiz, 2015; Part of the team that qualified for SATC Club quiz finals, 2015.
  • Auritra Chandra attained first position in Debate at NIOH on International Day of people with disabilities, 2015. She was a member of the winning team at the Annual Sudhansu Dasgupta Memorial Debate 2015-16 (Organised by the Presidency University Alumni Association).
  • Rahul S Chauhan: Best Delegate in European Union in Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Tech Model United Nations, 2015; Winner, Scriptus economics essay competition, St. Xavier's College, 2015 and Represent India at the South Asian Economics Students Meet, Colombo, 2015. He won 'Best delegate award' in ECB at St. Stephens College MUN. 
  • Debolina Chakrabarti presented paper “The Make In India program and historical analysis of other Asian economies in stimulating manufacturing growth” in the Reliance Industries' Limited's Treasury.

  • Sreyosree Saha, P.G. 2nd year student of Applied Economics, has been awarded Harsh & Payal Hada Foundation Scholarship Scheme, 2019 under "Meritorious students who are in need of financial help".
  • Jhinuk Banerjee, Second Year Post Graduate student (2017-2019 batch), has been selected as Senior Research Assistant in Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow in the project "Estimation of Rent of dwellings (residential and commercial) in Uttar Pradesh".
  • Pujeet Manot (UG) was nominated for Presidency University–Sciences Po exchange programme for August - December 2018. 
  • Rahul Singh Chauhan (UG) received High Commendation Award at St. Stephen’s Model UN. 
  • Rahul Singh Chauhan (UG) won the Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship 2018-19 
  • Pranjal Singh (UG) was awarded the Young India Fellowship at Ashoka University.

Sports, Art, Dance, Song and Film

  • Ronkita Saha from UG1 sem 2 (batch of 2023-27) won the First Prize in Poster Designing Competition on "Say no to ragging".
  • On 9th March, 2024 , Sayani Bodhak (UG- 3rd Year, 6th Sem) batch of 2021-24 took part in an inter college singing competition organised by University of Engineering and management (UEM) where almost 24 colleges participated initially and top 10 were selected in the prelims round. Then the final round was held at UEM itself and she secured a Second position in the event "Beat Battalion" (Basically band wise competition). 
  • Debasmita Saha (UG- 3rd Year, 6th Sem, batch of 2021-24) secured a second position in International Creative Writing Competition organised by www.monomousumi.com held on January 2023.
  • Spandan Dutta, UG Sem 3 student (batch of 2022-25) secured 1st position in swimming in the inter school competition Sport-A-Thalon 2019 organized by Delhi Public School, Howrah.  
  • Writwika Maity, UG 3rd Sem student (Batch: 2022-25) is trained in watercolor and acrylic painting from Gurukul Art Academy, Calcutta Talent Search School. She participated in an art exhibition "Amra Silpi", held in October 2018 which was organised by Research Institute for Human and Agricultural Development. She is also trained in Classical Dance, Bharatyanatyam from Kaladarpanam, Pracheen Kala Kendra. She also participated in drama at the District level Youth Parliament Competition 2019, organised by the Department of Parliament Affairs Government Of West Bengal. 
  • Anmol Gupta, UG fourth semester student, is a sportsman. He has participated in karate, swoop ball and basket ball competitions.
  • Rajarshi Dutta, UG student of batch 2020-2023, plays chess. He has been placed First in the Arena mega blitz  1st -22nd Aug, Mega puzzle rush 2nd edition- 9th December, Mega puzzle rush 1st edition- 8th December, Chess lovers all India rapid -21st November, Second in Unicorn Workshop - 22nd August, Arena mini blitz all India open - 23 August, Third in Sunday bonanza - 22nd August, Mega puzzle rush 3rd edition - 10th December. He has also participated in the Arena mega rapid - 22nd August and Double dhamaka all-India open blitz (7th position) - 6th September.
  • Ritam Upadhaya (UG, 2019-2022 batch) had appeared in two papers "Actuarial statistics" and "Actuarial mathematics" under Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK in September 2020. We are happy to announce that he has cleared both the papers.
  • Ratul Mondol, student of UG Second Year, has won two awards for making short films. In 2019, his film "Mon Amour" won the First Prize in Literaria, a fest organised by the English Department,  St Xavier's College (Kolkata). In 2020, his short film named 'Sovereign Democratic Republic' won the first prize in a 48-hour film making competition organised by St. Stephen's College (New Delhi).

Internships

  • Deepto Sengupta, Suchetana Das, Utsav Biswas and Riya Basu were offered internships by the State Bank of India in 2019.
  • Suchetana Das has been offered an internship by NABARD in 2019.
  • Indulekha Guha worked as a summer intern at Reserve Bank of India’s Kolkata office, after being selected via a highly competitive process.
  •  Aditi Bhattacharya worked as a summer internee at State Bank of India on a project on Financial Inclusion.
  • Sirsha Das underwent a summer internship at Deloitte in the Global Transfer Pricing System division.
  • Soumyadip Biswas worked as a summer internee at State Bank of India on Consumer Service Point.
  • Sayenka Das worked as a summer internee at State Bank of India on NRLM in India.
  • Several UG and PG students successfully completed summer internships at Ernst and Young, Centre for Civil Society, State Bank of India, IIM (C), IIT (Kharagpur), Visva Bharati University, etc. 

Outreach Activities

  • Arka Banerjee, Arindam Chakraborty and Shuchi Tripathi of 2013-16 batch have worked with a start up in Himachal Pradesh known as Himalayan Ecotourism during the month of June, 2015. It was social work and an unpaid internship which focused on uplifting the status of women in that region by teaching them the recipes of local food items like pickle and jam and other things like soaps etc and using wool to create felt products. Their work included researching and analysing the demand for such products and identifying the target population. 
  • Vidhi Agarwal of 2013-16 batch is a volunteer at CRY, since February, 2015.
  • Mohini Chatterjee of 2013-16 batch is a volunteer at a child education organisation called Make A Difference (MAD) since October 2014
