Objective
The objective of Oikos is to encourage students of the Economics Department to participate in extra-curricular and extra-academic activities like debating, essay writing, lectures by eminent persons, movie screening, and similar activities.
Department of Economics along with OIKOS, Economics Society celebrated Working Womens' Day on 11th March at 3.30 pm in Room No. 21 of the Department. The brochure can be downloaded from here.
Department of Economics, Presidency University along with OIKOS, the Economics Society organized a lecture by Dr. Raj Rajesh, Director of the Department of Economic and Policy Research, RBI, Kolkata on "Monetary Policy of RBI" on 1st December 2023.
Department of Economics, Presidency University along with OIKOS, the Economics Society organized an anti ragging poster designing competition in September 2023. The poster can be downloaded from here.
Department of Economics, Presidency University along with OIKOS, the Economics Society organized an online lecture by Ms. Subhra Bhattacharjee on 8th September, 2023 from 7 PM. Ms. Bhattacharjee is an alumna of the Department of Economics and is currently the Strategic Planner and the Head of the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office in Bahrain. She delivered a talk on Global Development Priorities- the 2030 agenda.

Professor Aditya Goenka, University of Birmingham, UK delivered a talk on Health and Economic Inequality During Pandemics: A Heterogeneous Agent Perspective on 5th September, 2023 at 3.30 PM in Economics Lecture Theatre of the Department of Economics, Presidency University.
Oikos, the Economics Society of Department of Economics, Presidency University organised a lecture by Prof. Aditya Goenka, Chair Professor, Economics Department, University of Birmingham University on 14th September 2022 at 3.30 PM. The title of the talk was “Covid Policy Making and the Role of Economists: A Personal View based on UK Experience”. PAPER PRESENTATION COMPETITION 2022
Greetings from the OIKOS, Economics Society, Presidency University, Kolkata!
We are happy o announce the results of the Paper Presentation Competition, one of the most prestigious events for the Undergraduate Economics majors, held on 26th March 2022.
Winner : Archita Singha, Raunak Chatterjee , Rounak Pal, Spandan Banerjee (Jadavpur University): "Tale of Two Peaks: Political Polarisation and the Median Voter Theorem".
1st runner up: Anik De, Elina Das , Pragna Dutt (Jadavpur University) "Analysing the relation between social sector expenditure, HDI and growth: a state-level study in India".
2nd runner up: Upanita Barman (Presidency University Kolkata) "Impact of interest rate on inflation- A study between India and the United States".

Essay Writing
Oikos had organised an essay competition on 11 September 2019. There were two groups: one for UG 1 and UG 2 students, and the other comprising of UG 3, PG 1 and PG 2 students.
First and Second prizes will be given to best essays in each group. Winners are:

Certificates of participants were distributed to all participants, while Prof. Indrajit Ray, Infosys Chair Professor gave William Dalrymple's "The Anarchy" to first prize winners, and Michael Baddeley's "Behavioural Economics: A very short introduction" by to second prize winners.
