A staff member may make contact asking the Wellbeing team to see a student as they have noticed something in the student's demeanour, learning or behaviour that they are concerned about.
A student may self nominate as they are feeling like they need to talk to someone.
A parent may make a referral as they have contacted the school to advise of a personal situation or concern and to request support or further assessment for their child.
An external agency may contact the school advising of a critical incident that will require close monitoring of a student or family.
The Wellbeing team may see a student as a 'once off ' situation OR they may see them on an ongoing basis, depending on the student's learning, physical, social, psychological or emotional wellbeing needs and levels of support required. A child may be referred to our School Services Support Officers (SSSOs) eg. psychologist/speech therapist to conduct psychological or learning assessments, in consultation with parents & Principal, to determine if there is a concern and may possibly qualify for DIP funding. The Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP) provides funding to assist schools to support eligible students with disability and high needs who attend government schools.
IF the child is already seeing an external agency, therapist or psychologist, the Wellbeing team can, with parent permission, be included to work in with the professional by supporting their current care plan in place. We are very open to having parents share copies of any allied health reports with the school so we can be guided by the best strategies to support your child at school for their needs.
Reasons for a referral may include: Mental health and wellbeing, anxiety, anger, coping skills, learning concerns/assessments, disability, friendship concerns, trauma, self esteem, grief support, family separations or divorce, concerning behaviours, family violence or stress, students living in out of home care, cultural challenges, school dis-engagement, resilience, long term illness and many other reasons. We are here to support you.
Please speak with Mel Douglas - Assistant Principal Student Wellbeing or your child's class teacher if you have any concerns.
