Department of Civil Engineering, DSCSITSC is going to celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at 10 am onwards at Google Meet on 23.01.2021(Saturday).


The program will be coordinated by Mr Baibaswata Das and Mr Sourav Kumar Singha as joint Convener of the program.

PARENT TEACHER MEET IN THE NEW YR 2021

We would like to inform you that Department of Civil Engineering has organized a Digital Parent Teacher Meet today from 6 pm to 9 pm in Google meet.

The meet was started with an welcome address and Happy New yr wish by our Principal Dr Om Prakash Sharma, followed by the introductory speech of our Assistant Registrar Mr Subarno Bhattacharya and Administrative Executive Ms Amrita Chadha towards our valued Guardians and students of CE Department.

Overall all guardians have expressed their unlimited satisfaction about the methodology of teaching and mentorship in all respects by the CE department from day to night. Guardians have also requested to continue this online teaching even after the lock down period is over.

CELEBRATION OF 6TH INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY organised by Department of Civil Engineering.


In the welcome address, Principal of DSCSITSC, Dr Om Prakash Sharma highlighted that as Indian we all should feel proud as "Yoga and Yog" both words have been given by Indian.


In the introductory speech of the celebration, Dr Sushovan Sarkar, Professor and Head of Civil Engg Dept had addressed towards the students regarding benefits of Yoga.

Both students and faculty members either performed live in the webinar or shared their photos and videos of their performance which they earlier did.

WEBINAR on “SCENARIO OF INDIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY”

We are pleased to inform you that the Department of Civil Engineering has conducted a Webinar on 26th Sep. 20 on the theme "Scenario on Indian Construction Industry " inviting guest speaker Mr Raju Karmakar, Technical Manager of M/s Ultratech Cement Ltd. Mr Kamakar presented the topic on cement, green concrete and various other construction materials produced by Ultratech and its application in construction industries in India and abroad.

It was also highlighted how OPC ,PPC and PSC cements are manufactured in the plant using waste materials like fly ash, blast furnace granulated slag etc.

We are pleased to inform you that the Alumni Meet Donec 2020 organised by the Department of Civil Engineering of Dr Sudhir Chandra Sur Engineering College on 08 th May'2020 has become a grand success.

The program was started with a welcome speech of Dr. Om Prakash Sharma, Principal of DSCSDEC followed by introductory speech of Dr Sushovan Sarkar, Professor and HOD Department of Civil Engineering addressing to tribute to Sri Rabindra Nath Tagore on the auspicious day.

More than Sixty (60) Alumnis Both BTech and Diploma Civil of 2016 batch onwards have participated in the meet and shared their views in present condition. Some alumni informed that construction related activity is going full phased at the site and some others are working from home. It is indeed a pleasure to all of us knowing that the alumni are engaged with their day to day work in lock down period and regularly earning their salaries.

Webinar on " Building Planning and Role of Architecture in Civil Engineering" :

Department of Civil Engineering has conducted an Webinar on "Building Planning and role of Architecture in Civil Engineering" on 20th April 2020. Architect. Shibabrata Lai, Director , Development Architects Pvt Ltd( Development Consultant Group), Guest speaker has presented his topic and shared his practical knowledge which would enhance the knowledge in the subject Construction Planning and Management as per curriculum of BTech Civil 3rd yr and for the subject of Diploma Civil Final year also.50 students participated in this Webinar. Overall the expert's presentation was very much interesting to both faculty members and students as this was related with the terminology of Building Planning like open space, FAR, Ground Coverage, Ht of the building, light and ventilation , Fire protection system in buildings etc. Students were very much satisfied with this practical live presentation.

Department of Civil Engineering has organized online parent teachers meeting where Fifty six(56) no's parents have been participated. Please find attached the list of students whose guardians have been participated today.

Overall all guardians have expressed their unlimited satisfaction about the methodology of teaching followed by the department from day to night. Guardians have also requested to continue this online teaching even after the lock down period is over.

Webinar on " Scope of Academic Research in Civil Engineering" :

Department of Civil Engineering has organized a webinar on " Scope of Academic Research in Civil Engineering"which is a grand success on 18th April 2020. The webinar ws started with an introduction session with all faculty members and the guest Professors from IIT Patna.

The first research topic on "Metallurgical recovery of metals from E-Waste" was delivered by Dr Subrata Hait, Associate Professor of IIT Patna and then the topic on "Ground water Pollution " was delivered by Dr Om Prakash , Assistant Professor of IIT Patna.


Webinar on theme "Building Construction and Bye Laws" :

Department of Civil Engineering of our Institute arranged a webinar on the Theme "Building Construction and Bye Laws” inviting one renowned consultant Er.Chandrachudha Bhattacharya, as a Guest Speaker.

The presented topic mainly focused on the Building rules, regulations, bye laws and the latest methodology followed in construction of buildings. Video of the latest technology applied in construction was presented in the webinar. Students have gained practical experience in application of latest construction equipments, methodology and items of work used in construction

At the end of Dr. Bhattacharya’s speech, the webinar was open for question answer discussion, where the students participated. Overall it was an interesting session to attend with.

Quiz Competition on "Civil Engineering and its application" :

Department of Civil Engineering has conducted Quiz Competition on the topic "Civil Engineering and its application" on 19th Feb 20, at our College.

The purpose of conducting this program is to create a competition among the students and for motivating them to become an expert in the Civil Engineering Profession.

The program was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp and water in the plant, A welcome speech was delivered by Convener Dr. Sushovan Sarkar, Professor and HOD(Civil) followed by Words of Wisdom by our honorable Principal Dr. Om Prakash Sharma. The entire program was coordinated by Program Coordinator Sourav Kumar Singha.

Distribution of Clothes in slum area :

Department of Civil Engineering has initiated for distribution of Clothes in Slum area(near bagjola Canal)with Students of B.Tech CE 3rd yr.

The program of cloth distribution was found very effective before Durga Puja.

The main objective of the program is that we are building engineers for the society.

workshop on Autodesk Revit

A 2 day workshop on software Autodesk Revit was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering on 17th and 18th of October 2019.

The purpose of this workshop was to make the students industry ready so that the students get more employment opportunity in the industry.

The program started with lighting of lamp followed by a welcome note from Dr.Sushovan Sarkar(HOD,Civil) and a speech from Dr.Om Prakash Sharma,Principal regarding the importance of such session.The workshop was conducted by an Expert from M/s CAD POINT who spoke about the unique advantage of the REVIT SOFTWARE to make a three dimensional plan and elevation of the buildings, as well as detailings of steel structures which are subject of beyond syllabus .

Teacher's Day Celebrated on 5th September'19

Teacher’s Day was celebrated on Thursday, 5th September, 2019 at Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College with great grandeur to express gratitude and appreciation to all the teachers.

Workshop on "MS Project"

The Department of Civil Engineering of Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College organised a work shop on Project Planning Software "MS PROJECT" on Tuesday,3rd September 2019, where the participants were mainly from B.TECH Civil 2nd year and 3rd year.The software is an industry based ready software which would help our students to gain output based education for getting an employment in construction industry where application of project planning is must.

The experts for deliberation for the workshop came from M/s ABACUS DIGITAL PVT LTD who are one of our technical partners.The session was very informative for the students for their future.

International Conference on "Sustainable Environmental Engineering and Science (SEES 2019)"

The Department of Civil Engineering of Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College under the aegis of JIS Group Educational Initiatives, in our DECADE year, organized an International Conference on "Sustainable Environmental Engineering and Science (SEES 2019) , technically supported by the College of Science and Technology, NIHON UNIVERSITY, JAPAN on 29 th and 30 th November' 2019 at our college. Springer Publication has confirmed for publishing of the conference papers in proceedings of Springer. The chief editor of the proceeding is Dr Sunil Kumar, Head, Technology Development Centre and Principal Scientist, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Division, CSIR-NEERI. The other two editors of this proceeding are Dr Makarand Ghangrekar, Professor, Dept of Civil Engg, IIT-Kharagpur and Ajay Kalamdhad, Professor , IIT-Guwahati.

Remembering Mother Teresa on her 109th Birth Anniversary

To commemorate the 109th Birth Anniversary of Mother Teresa, Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College organised a Quiz Program on Mother Teresa on Monday,26th August,2019.

Canonised on September 4, 2016, Saint Teresa Of Calcutta better known as Mother Teresa was born in Skopje on August 26, 1910. The founder of Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, she received a number of honors during her lifetime including the Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize in 1962 and Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

She worked for orphans, AIDS patients, refugees, blind, disabled, alcoholics, poor, homeless, victims of floods and epidemics and famine.

She served the poorest of the poor across the world and became the defender of the right to life for the unborn and challenged children, who were perceived as the burden to the society.

In remembrance of the Legend, students actively participated in the Quiz Program and also remembered her by presenting a short biography on Mother which marked all her achievements and services to the society.She was remembered with some of her special quotes that guided everyone to lead a better life.

“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.”

Seminar on Transformation and Reformation of Teaching Learning and Research on 13th of March 2019.

Prof. Saikat Maitra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor MAKAUT,WB, graced the occasion as a chief guest & guest speaker. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor was received by our Principal Prof.(Dr.) Om Prakash Sharma, HODs, Admin. Officer at the main entrance of our college by putting tilak chandan on the forehead and showering of rose petals.

The seminar started with lighting of lamp followed by Ganesha Vandana performed by our students and felicitation with flower bouquet etc. by our Principal.

A welcome address was given by our Principal followed by a very informative and interesting session by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.

Prof.Maitra threw light on the importance of change in the traditional education system to innovative learning. He emphasized on Learning Everywhere All the time, compared traditional learning with Peer Learning and discussed in details about the advantages and disadvantages of Traditional Learning. He spoke about the learning styles and strategies of modern pedagogy.

He further initiated and thrown light on Self-Paced Learning, Collaborative Learning, Blended Learning, Adaptive Learning. He also spoke about Flipped Learning. He stressed on virtual learning with increased use of games and simulation as a part of Modern Learning system.

The session was very engrossing and all the participant HODs of our College/Group Colleges, faculty members and students were benefitted from the interaction.

At the end Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Sushovan Sarkar, HOE, CE Department.

Air Pollution and Its Remedies-A Challenge

A seminar on "Air Pollution and Its Remedies-A Challenge" was conducted today by Department of Civil , Mechanical and Automobile Engineering at our college Dr Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College. The guest speaker for this seminar was Dr Kalyan Rudra , Chairman, Pollution Control Board, West Bengal.The seminar was inaugurated by lighting of lamp by Dr Rudra, the Guest Speaker, Principal Dr O.P.Sharma, HODs of Civil, Mechanical and Automobile Department and Admin Officer followed by Ganesh Vandana. The well come address of the seminar was given by Dr O.P.Sharma. Dr Rudra .

was felicitated by Dr O.PSharma, Dr Sushovan Sarkar, HOD Civil and Dr Ambarish Dutta, TIC of Automobile Department.D Rudra has presented the topic giving the statistical data of air pollution , source and way of abatement or the same. He highlighted the awareness program and active participation for reducing the air pollution. At the end vote of thanks was given by Dr Sushovan Sarkar, HOD Civil followed by National Anthem.

Farewell of Diploma Final year Students 2019

A farewell for the Diploma final year students of both Civil and Automobile has been arranged at Dr Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College Dumdum on 22.05.19.

The farewell program was inaugurated by honorable Principal of DSCSDEC, Prof.(Dr.) Om Prakash Sharma followed by speech of Prof. Sk Abdul Nafis, ex Professor of Automobile Engineering , Professor (Dr) Sushovan Sarkar, Professor and HOD of Civil Engineering , Mr. Subrata Saha, Assistant Professor of Automobile Engineering and various faculty and staff members of Civil and Automobile Department.

Students of both Diploma Civil and Automobile department have participated in songs, musics, recitation, dance showing good buy to their senior batch. After all cultural activities, Diploma final year students were presented with mementos by second year diploma students.Cake cutting and sweet distribution was done to celebrate the farewell program. At the end Group photographs was arranged assembling all students downstairs with Principal Sir, Senior Staffs, HODs , faculty members and staff members.The day was full of fun among the students and memorable day to all of us.

Farewell of b.tech Final year Students 2019

Department wise Farewell ceremony 2019 is organised for the pass out batch and celebrated the program with lots of love, affection, and enthusiasm during 3rd May to 17th May 2019

The students from both third year and final year along with all faculty members and staffs of the respective department performed with different types of cultural activity like song, musics, dance, recitation for making the program enlightened.

The final year students were presented with a memento, Cake was cut and sweets were distributed to make the program memorable.

Organ Donation after death

Mr Barun Kajaria from Young Indians and two 3rd yr Medical Students from Arjikar Medical college were present as Speakers in this session.

It was a very interesting session where students from 1st yr, 2nd yr and 3rd yr were participated. Death, Brain death and Komma were nicely distinguished by the speakers. The purpose of donation of organs, procedure of donation, impact after donation were explained in the interaction program.

A Practical Exposure of Testing Arsenic in Water

In order to promote research and development activity in the domain of Civil Engineering , the Department of Civil Engineering of Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College has conducted a hands on practical exposure of testing arsenic in water on 15th March 2019.

Expert Dr Joydeb Jana from Public Health Engineering , Kalyani in the presence of Principal Prof.(Dr.) Om Prakash Sharma and HOD of Civil Engineering conducted a day long practical class for the 3rd and 4th year students of Civil Engineering Department.

The training was very effective to get a practical experience by our students in determination of arsenic in water by the classical method of Silver Diethyl Dithio Carbamade with the help of Spectrophotometer.

As an extension of the workshop the department has identified two clusters of students to produce a research paper on arsenic testing of the water collected from various locations of Kolkata.

Tech Fest Manthan 2019

A proud moment of us that Padma Shree Sir Prof (Dr) Ajoy Roy has commented about the excellency about the model of the project which our students developed with innovative thought in the Technical Fest Manthan 2019.

Cloth Distribution by the Students

As we are born, weather is sensitive for everyone, every body feels heat, cold and rain. When our visited visited Melabagan slums along Bagjola Canal, Dumdum Road (Near Hanuman Mandir), they found that the slum dwellers need urgent help and planned cloth distribution. A team of students led by Dr. Sushovan Sarkar carried out cloth distribution at the above slum. We can see the satisfaction in the eyes of both receivers and givers.

REJOVENIR 2K19

A Cultural Fest REJOVENIR 2K19 was held at Indoor Stadium of Dr Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College,Dumdum on 06th April’19. The program was Inaugurated by Mr. Simarpreet Singh, Director (JIS Group), Sardar Ram Chandra Gaba(Mamaji), Professor Om Prakash Sharma, Principal, DSCSDEC, Professor Sushovan Sarkar , HOD(Civil), Convenor of Cultural Fest,Mr.Sonalal Chattopadhaya, Admin. Officer. The program witnessed the presence of all HODs,TIC,Technical Staff and students of DSCSDEC.

Inaugural function started after reciting Mantra to Lord Ganesha and offering coconut and ladoo as prasadam.

After opening of Cultural Fest Rejovenir2K19 by Mr.Simarpreet Singh,Director,JIS Group ,student performance started with Ganesh Vandanafollowed by Shiva Tandava to showcase our culture and tradition.

Prof.Om Prakash Sharma ,Principal in his welcome address thanked Respected Sh.Taranjit Singh,MD JIS Group for providing the opportunity to perform in the indoor stadium. He added that the gracious presence of Mr.Simarpreet Singh,Director,JIS Group is a great source of inspiration and motivation to all. Director,Principal,HODs,TIC and staff members appreciated the joint effort of all department’s students.

At the end Dr.Sushovan Sarkar,HOD Civil, Convenor REJOVENIR 2K19 expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders of DSCSDEC for support and cooperation.

A report on Two-Days workshop organized by Department of Civil Engineering on 06 th and 07 th September’2018.

Department of Civil Engineering of DrSudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College has conducted 2days workshop on “Application of software on tall building”on 6 th and 7 th September’2018 in the College Campus. The purpose of this workshop is to make civil engineering students of our college industry ready which would help them to get an opportunity in the current industry. As the population is increasing very rapidly, necessity of design and construction of tall buildings with in a scarce resource land plays a significant role in real estate project, consultants and architectural houses. The focus of the workshop was mainly to train students on the computer aided drafting i.eAutocad and Revit software in the first day and on the computer aided analysis and design i.e. Staad Pro and Etabs software in the second day.In this workshop, each and every student practiced the above software application in their individual PCs in CAD Lab under the guidance of thetechnical expert MrKaustavSanyalof M/s EDUCAD (A 20yrsBangalore Based CAD company ). This 2 days workshop has helped the students to get an awareness of the industry used civil engineering software (beyond syllabus) like Revit and Etabs in application of drawing and design in highrise building. The advantageous application of Revit over Autocad were clearly explained to the students in this workshop.
