Rare Earth Project

Department of Civil Engineering has arranged a digital Site Visit on 03.10.2020 for Diploma Civil Engineering Students at Rare Earth Project ( A project developed by M/s Prasad Group of 12.5 lacs sqft construction on 12 acre area at phool bagan beside Swabhumi)

The project is 35 storied buildings with double basement , with RCC wall (using Aluminium Shuttering) with mechanised construction procedure.

The students were shown digitally how the double basement construction is done at site using sheet piling and other lateral supports. The most updated technology using RCC wall with aluminium shuttering and most modern equipment has increased the practical knowledge of the students in modern scenarios. How the bitumen road is constructed the videography is also shown to the students.

Students have been shown more than 100 photographs related with the construction at site including mostly the shuttering and barbending stage of the construction.

Jai Hind Jol Prokalpa

Department of Civil Engineering has conducted 17.02.2020 plant visit with our Diploma Civil 3rd yr students to the water treatment plant "Jai Hind Jol Prokalpa" near Dhapa, Science City of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The students visited plant to gain their practical knowledge on treatment process in water treatment of their present course curriculum Environmental Engineering in the current semester.

Experts in the plant have explained the total process of the treatment and the function of each unit/process in the plant.

Sukho Bristi, Rajarhat

Department of Civil Engineering has arranged a site visit to Sukhobristi, Rajarhat with our Diploma Civil 2nd year students under construction by M/s Simplex Infrastructure Limited on 9th September 2019. It is the largest mass housing project in the country developed by Bengal Shapoorji Housing Development Pvt. Ltd. - a group company of Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited, one of the biggest names in the construction and real estate industry in the country today. It is the project initiated by West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Company Ltd. (WBHIDCO) - a Government owned company, set up for the state infrastructure development with a focus on New Town, Kolkata. Developed on 150 acres of land, the township Shukhobrishti, aims to provide affordable homes with facilities usually associated with high-end residential complexes.There are 20,000 apartments built exclusively for low and middle income group of the society. Shukhobrishti has set a new benchmark in terms of quality and design for the affordable housing segment.

Ideal Greens, Tollygunge

The Department of Civil Engineering of Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College arranged a plant visit for the Diploma 3rd yr students on Monday, 2nd September 2019.

Jain Hind Jal Prokolpa

The Department of Civil Engineering of Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College arranged a plant visit for the B.Tech 3rd yr students on Monday,19th & 20th August 2019 to Jain Hind Jal Prokolpa (A water treatment plant with 30 MG/Day capacity), the 3rd largest water treatment plant in Kolkata .


During the course of the visit the students were explained about the treatment process starting from the Primary sedimentation tank followed by motorized primary basin, Coagulation cum Flocculation units, Filter units , Pump Houses where from by pumping the clear water it is discharged to outlets. Students gained a practical knowledge about the operation of individual units in the water treatment plant.

Department of Civil Engineering has conducted a site visit with the 2nd year students on Friday 01.03.19 at Rare Earth Project (93, Narkeldanga Main Road , Kolk-54), A Project of G+35 storied with double basement 12 lacs square feet high rise building project under PRASAD GROUP constructed by the contractor M/s Simplex Limited and M/s ACC limited.

The high rise building project with latest technology i.e RCC Shear wall with aluminium shuttering without brickwork with all amenities including swimming pool updated practical experience to all the 2nd yr students of Civil Engineering.

Project Manager Mr Debojyoti Roy and his team at project site guided our students. Everyone was happy by the courtesy and hospitality shown during visit.

Students were very happy to correlate the practical and theoretical aspects of the subject.

Southern Heights

A site visit was arranged yesterday (19.07.18) with students of Group –A ,3rd year Civil Engineering department at Southern Heights, a high rise building complex, Joka under construction by M/s DTC Projects PVT LTD.

Detailed construction procedure of pile foundation like number of pile, diameter of pile, pile cap, pile driving machine was explained and physically shown to our students at site. Latest technology for high rise building like R.C.C shear wall was discussed in details and physically shown to our students at site. This shear walls are especially important in high rise buildings subject to lateral wind and seismic forces. Two types of form work like Plywood Formwork and Aluminum Formwork were observed at site.

At the end, students learnt a lot about the practical knowledge from this site visit about the construction procedure, construction materials usage and the safety followed for construction of high rise building.

sewage treatment plant (24 MLD Capacity)

On 17th January 2019 BTech Civil 3rd yr students have visited a sewage treatment plant (24 MLD Capacity) at Rajarhat ( A project of public heath department under HIDCO)..

Students were first shown a video of a typical plant operation, total layout of the units and processes and then were sent to site for practically showing them each and every unit and operation. In this plant wastewater treatment is done with sequence batch reactor where biological treatment is occured. Students were shown in detail how sewage comes in the intake, screening , grit chamber, sequence batch reactor and finally to chlorine dosage tank.

Students were explained the operation of the treatment process of wastewater . They gained a practical experience and knowledge from this plant visit.

SOUTHERN HEIGHTS

Civil Engineering Department has organized a site visit program on 08 th April’19 with our civil engineering 2nd yr diploma students in a site of 3 Million Sq.ft high rise residential project (SOUTHERN HEIGHTS near IIM Zoka) .

The purpose of the site visit is to give awareness to the students regarding latest technology practised in high rise building like Aluminium Shuttering, Continuous RCC wall instead of brick wall, batching plant operation, quality control test of materials at site and mandatory safety norms applicable at site etc.

Students were told about the latest technology followed in high rise building construction by senior site personnel at site.Students gained practical experience on the latest building materials used at site and sequential construction procedures followed maintaining quality at site.

Rajarhat Sewage Treatment Plant

Department of Civil Engineering of Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College organized a plant visit for 3rd year B.Tech students to Rajarhat Sewage Treatment Plant on Tuesday,19th February 2019.

The visit aimed to get a hands on experience on live functioning of bar screen, primary sedimentation tank, sequence batch reactor, chlorination of water in tank and sludge digestion process.

The treatment process of wastewater from the inlet, screening, sedimentation, biological process and finally after chlorination discharge in to the outlets were discussed in detail with the students during the visit by the expert Mr.Sourav Das.

32 students were benefited and were happy to correlate the practical concepts of their theory subject Environmental Engineering.

Jai Hind Water Treatment Plant

Department of Civil Engineering has conducted a plant visit today (02 nd April'2019) with Diploma Civil Final Yr students at Jai Hind Water Treatment plant near Dhapa, bypass. The plant with 30 million gallon capacity will suffice the need of arsenic free, treated, filtered drinking water of a large number of people living in the areas surrounding E M Bypass including Mathpukur, Kasba, Kalikapur, Mukundapur, Anandapur, Patuli and other areas of KMC.

Students have gained practical experience about different operation and processes of treatment units of this water treatment plant which they are presently studying in Environmental Engineering Subject in this current 6th semester.

An effective interaction session was also held between students and KMC personnel for better understanding of the domain subject.

GARDEN REACH SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

Civil Engineering Department of Dr Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College has conducted plant visit with Civil Final yr students to the Sewage Treatment Plant at Garden Reach (A 45 MLD Capacity plant under Kolkata Municipal Corporation ) successively on 27 th and 28 th August’2018.

Purpose of the plant visit was to show our civil final yr students practically each unit and operation system of a typical sewage treatment plant to comply with their Environmental Engineering Subject as per their course curriculum.

Students were shown each unit of operation starting from the inlet wastewater inflow from pumping stations like Bar Screen, Grit Chamber, Primary Sedimentation Tank, Aeration Tank, Secondary tank (Activated Sludge Process), Settling Tank, Chlorine Contact Basin and finally to the effluent discharge point. Process of aeration in aeration tank was shown in details to our students. There was also a model of the treatment scheme which was given a brief to the students in KMC Administration office. Overall, students have gained a practical experience about the mode of operation and systems units of a typical Sewage Treatment Plant from this plant visit.
