Current DSC Graduate Co-Chairs
Jovani (23-present Grad Co-Chair) is a 4th year in Soc/Per (PI: Sapna Cheryan).
He has been a part of various DSC teams, most importantly heading the Climate Survey Team for consecutive years.
Ariel (2024-present Graduate Co-Chair) is a 4th year in the Cognition/Perception area supervised by Andrea Stocco. Her research is in memory and computational models of cognition.
She has been a DSC RA since Summer 2023. She created the DSC Blog Team, and maintains this blog as well as the DSC webpages.
Carol (2024-present Graduate Co-Chair) is a 3rd year in the Developmental area supervised by Ariel Starr.
She has been on various DSC teams, most importantly the Virtual Recruitment Event planning team for consecutive years.
Past DSC Graduate Co-Chairs
Rachel (22-24 Grad Co-Chair) is a 5th year in Soc/Per (PI: Cynthia Levine). She has been a part of the CHIPs (Championing Inclusive Pedagogy) teams and helped facilitate changes to the diversity specialization.
From Rachel: "My research investigates how people respond to their cultural and physical environments in ways that reinforce racial and class-based inequities. The DSC has been a constant throughout my grad school experience - I started as an RA my first year then served as co-chair from 2022-2024. It’s hard work but I’m so proud of all of our efforts."
Z (22-24 Grad Co-Chair) is a 5th year Ph.D. candidate and received their B.A. in Cognitive Science, with a minor in Comparative Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. They're interested in studying how intersectional identities impact our lives, as well as how biases are created and maintained in larger systems (e.g., education, legal contexts). Their current projects focus on legal bias against sexual harassment victims, supporting formerly incarerated parents, and prototypes of nonbinary individuals.
Z has been involved with many DSC initiatives: (past): Syllabus Team/CHIPS 2020-2022, URM recruitment event 2020-2023, Climate survey team 2020-2022, hosting welcome events 2020-2022, sitting as graduate/DSC member on several committes DAC 2021-2022, participating in DSC faculty hiring interviews 2020-2022; (present): Edwards speaker 2021-present, sitting on DAT 2022-2024
Current DSC RAs
Lindsey Green is a 5th year PhD Candidate in the Child Clinical Area. Lindsey has been involved in the Virtual Recruitment Event for consecutive years during her time as a DSC RA.
Ishaan is a 3rd year Graduate Student in the Developmental area supervised by Ariel Starr. Ishaan joined the Language, Cognition, and Development (LCD) Lab as a graduate student in 2022. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara in the spring of 2021 with a B.S. in Psychological and Brain Sciences and a B.A. in Biological Anthropology. Ishaan is broadly interested in bi/multilingual language development, spatial cognitive development, and the interplay between them. Outside the lab, you can find them singing/writing music, watching Hindi movies, and playing video games.
Ishaan has been involved with various DSC teams, including the Virtual Recruitment Event, and the Climate Survey team.
Annie is a 3rd year Graduate Student in the Social and Personality area. She has been a member of the Climate Survey Team.
Yuchen is a 4th year Graduate Student in the Adult Clinical area. She has been an DSC RA for consecutive quarters, mainly working with international student projects.
Celine is a 3rd year Graduate Student in the Social/Personality area. She is currently a DSC RA working on the Virtual Recruitment team.
Sharon is a 4th year Graduate Student in the Adult Clinical area. She has been involved in undergrad and graduate student mentorship and networking projects.
Chelsea is a 3rd year Graduate Student currently on the Virtual Recruitment coordinating and planning team.
Kayne is a 4th year Graduate Student in the Adult Clinical area. He has been involved with the DSC has an RA.
DSC RA applications are circulated at the end of every quarter to begin your DSC duties for the following quarter. Please keep an eye out for the application if you are interested in joining the DSC! If you want to learn more, please email one of the current graduate co-chairs.
