Magic Flute 2003

Producer, VO programmer, sound designer

This was a collaborative project between Department of Entertainment Technology, the Opera Company of Brooklyn, Realtime Music Solutions, and Bianchi and Smith.  Sinfonia® drove an immersive surround field with 25 discrete channels of orchestra distributed into 32 individual speakers.  Meyer Spacemap technologies allowed each instrument to "wander" around the surround system, which was particularly useful for scenes when the  flute played.  In addition, via Medialon Show Control, the virtual orchestra also triggered the projection set, lighting, and effects cues. The entire technical production was crewed by Entertainment Technology students, who participated as designers, engineers and technicians.

However, at the time, fears of this innovative technology led to controversy.
