A juxtaposition of musical and textile patterns. Seek direct isomorphisms between the formal structure of these elements. To be woven and deeply intertwined, using both formalistic and expressive connections.
A performance piece with four major sections, for central vocalist (testos), four singers, dance, a hybrid instrumental ensemble able to represent each represented civilization, each detailing in some way the collapse of an ancient civilization due to climate change. Text is drawn from direct translations of original sources and resonating mythos stories.
Cycle is semi-staged. Theatrical elements
I am highly interested in the concept of "meta-gesamtkunstwerk", where multiple artists and scholars working from the same source material create discrete yet complete products around a shared theme.
My interest in formal mapping between and amongst different domains suggests fruitful, multi-modal shared projects. Thus, simultaneous collaborations with other artists and artisans would provide synergistic enhancements to the overall project.
Thus as part of the framework for the piece are spaces (both temporal/spatial?) to insert other collaborators within the larger
Narrative should not be overtly polemical. Instead, presentation is based directly from contemporary writing, without editorial comment.
Theatrical elements proposed.
Potential for collaboration with costume and set (fabric-based), video projection, puppetry, etc etc.
Fully staged version envisioned, but there should be an extractable version suitable for performance in concert or recital settings.
Each civilization had its own set of performance instruments. The ensemble for this piece will be the set of all instruments: this means that certain instruments will be represented in multiple orchestras, and the layout will need to support the ability of the smaller ensembles to perform both within the context of themselves as well as in the meta-ensemble
Puppetry should also play a central role in this production: Stage as Puppet.

Carrying Capacity vs Population density
Niche Construction changes to ecosystem based on a species altering the environment of that ecosystem.
---ARGUMENT---
Agricultural Technology increases the carrying capacity.
Increasing population places stress on carrying capacity
Collapse occurs when population exceeds carrying capacity.
Carrying capacity can change based on a variety of local conditions, one of which is climate (desertification, long term cycles, etc)
The closer the population to the maximum carrying capacity, the more vulnerable the food system becomes to changes in overall conditions
