The course uses an eText from Libretext.org: https://chem.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Organic_Chemistry/Map%3A_Organic_Chemistry_(Smith)
It is free and contained in the classroom for your use (or the above website).
OPTIONAL: If you already have a 2 semester Organic Chemistry book, the material is valid and be a tremendous help for practicing the material. I suggest the use of Smith's Organic Chemistry , 4th edition (with the fish on the cover). You can usually pick one up for less than $30.
To be successful in this class, work constantly and consistently.
Work the end of chapter problems. Work more problems. Ask questions.
Make a notes sheet for each Module of equations, constants, helpful things for each quiz. You may use this sheet on the quiz. Having one of these for each module makes studying for the final exam very efficient.
Due Dates are listed as Fridays for the 16 week sessions and Mondays for the 8 week sessions. If you mentally make your due dates earlier, you will achieve more success in this class. Initial discussion assignments are always due prior to the end of the Module. See your course calendar for details.
BCC Only: There is extra credit every module in the form of turning in your labs early. That date is on prior to the module due date. As an example of timing, if in the 16 week course - Mod 1 is due Feb 1 and you turn in your completed lab by Friday, Jan 25, you will be eligible for 4 extra credit points. In the 8 week course - if Mod 1 is due Jan 21 and you turn in your completed lab by Thursday, Jan 18, you will be eligible for 2 extra credit points. Lab extra credit is not extended for ANY reason. (those are illustrative dates and do not pertain to YOUR session)
Orientation Activities - due first Wednesday of the session
Final Exam - due the last Friday of the course
** The final exam is due before the course close date. **
