PEDAGOGICAL METHODS
- Flipped Classroom: Students will take notes on Greatest Common Factor (GCF) as homework.
- Differentiated Instruction: Students work at their own pace on the homework. Modifications of homework will be made for students without computer nor internet at home (printed copy of PPT slides).
- Teacher will review notes in class and ask/answer clarifying questions.
- Student collaboration in groups of 3 to 4.
COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS
- 6.NS.B.4: Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor.
STANDARDS OF MATHEMATICAL PRACTICES
- MP 1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
- MP 2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
- MP 3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
- MP 7: Look for and make use of structure.
SWBAT
- Students will access prior knowledge of divisibility rules and prime factorization to find GCF of two numbers.
- Students have the choice of using a factor tree or the ladder method to find prime factorization.
