Romulan

"Our people are warriors, often savage.

but we are also many other pleasant things" -- Liviana Charvanek

Romulans; known as species 3783 by the Borg are descended from Vulcans and possessing both enhanced technology and an insular, paranoid societal tendency.

Although Romulans are descended from the same ancestors as Vulcans, they are surprisingly different both physiologically and culturally. Romulan ribosomes apparently do not match those of Vulcans – but can match those of humans and even Klingons (with whom they can interbreed), suggesting that there may yet be things about this species unknown to scientists. Culturally, the race believes in discarding genetically or physically inferior infants. Romulans are focused on achieving reunification with the Vulcans on their own terms. Secondarily, they are interested in conquering the galaxy to ensure their own safety. They often favor cautious approaches to problems – throughout their long history of war Romulans have rarely attacked first, opting instead to test their enemies’ resolve. Their interest in other species is normally limited only to how they threaten Romulan security, or could further Romulan interests.

The Romulan Senate works directly with the Tal Shiar – the Romulan military secret service – although it is questionable whether the Tal Shiar or the Senate is in control of the Romulan Star Empire at any given point in history. Many ordinary Romulans have horror stories about the Tal Shiar. They learn quickly to be secretive and not to volunteer information.

As a rule, the Romulans claim to have invented every technological breakthrough before any other culture.

In many cases, it seems, they may be correct.

Romulans are descended from the same peoples as Vulcans and, while the physical power of the Vulcans has been carried on,

their devotion to passion has led to an erosion of what really matters to Romulans.

Size: Medium Base Speed: 30 feet

Medical Classification: Group III-a - Vulcanoid (copper-blood-Green)

+1 species bonus to Bluff, Perception, and Sense Motive.

This boon scales +1 every 10 levels.

Romulan society is encouraged to watch their fellow citizens for signs of disloyalty, Tal Shiar agents infiltrate all tiers of society, individuals keep an eye on neighbors, and sub-commanders routinely inform on superior officers. To find information, incriminating or not, is second nature to Romulans.

Romulan Cunning

Romulans Gain a general feat slot they can use for any feat similar to a human.

Romulans are cunning and adaptive, quickly fitting into any part they must play in the great scheme.

Biological Flexibility

Though it hasn’t been fully examined scientifically, it appears that the Romulans share key biological features with several races, including the Klingons and humans. Romulans can interbreed with several races and can receive blood transfusions, as well as other sort of medical treatment (conceivably) such as organ transplants. This sort of treatment does not work with Vulcan biology, however.

If such a situation arises, GM consultation is recommended.
