Planner - time management - goals - activity for adult learners
When students have difficulties to start on a task e.g. writing a paper or studying for an exam, this quick planner can help them. Quick, easy and effective.
This tool can be used by teachers and student counsellors.
Arrange some time for adult learners to work on this activity, either in class as a teacher or during a face-to-face meeting as student counsellor. When working on this tool in classroom, you can have your adult learners work in pairs. Try to come back to their list from time to time to remind them of their goal.
Download the instructions for adult learners below.
Page 1: on this page you divide a big task in smaller steps. Use 4 to 10 steps.
Page 2: on page 2 you write things you would rather do than studying.
Then get to work!
After accomplishing a step from page 1, have your adult learners write down how they felt about that. And then have them choose one of the items from page 2 as a reward for themselves!
"Students often don’t feel like planning something because it means they’ve got to get to work. But this tool also has a very nice side (a reward) and that’s why is works better. Make a joint start with the students and then they can continue on their own. I regularly check with students how it’s progressing and I got some nice feedback."
