About this tool

The goal is for the participants to think about their dream for the future. For this exercise student can dream big, there are no obstacles that might stand in the way of achieving their goal. At the same time, they will also think about what kind of job that they would not want to do or will not be able to do in the future. The exercise will take approximately 20 min.

How to use this tool?

This is a classroom activity.

The learners' task is to figure out what their dream job would be without any obstacles, like for example education, economy etc. Then the learners should also think about what job they “would never in their life” do or what they are not able to do.

Let them tell their dream job and never-in -life-job in pairs or in small group. To enable the discussion you may use these questions:

  • What job aspects make it a “dreamjob”/ “neverinmylife” job?

  • What kind of skills do the job require/ how does my own skills meet these requirements?

  • Is it possible to get the “dreamjob”/ what would it take for you to be able to get it?

  • If not possible, which job would be similar?

  • Why doesn’t the never in my life job fit me?

  • Compare the “dreamjob” and the “neverinmylife” job. Are there similarities when it comes to skills and job type?

"Students often have a narrow or unrealistic view of their skills. We used this tool to help students broaden their view on what goal is reachable and make students conscious of their situation. The tool is often an eye-opener for students and a fun exercise to get to know each other better."
