Alb (Albion): One of the three realms in DAoC, based on medieval Britain, featuring Britons, Avalonians, Highlanders, Inconnu, Half Ogres, and Saracens.
AoE (Area of Effect): A spell or ability that affects multiple targets within a designated area, often used for crowd control or damage.
AFK: Away From Keyboard; refers to a player who is temporarily not active in the game.
Alt: Short for "alternate character," referring to a character that a player has in addition to their main one.
Aggro: The attention or hostility of an NPC or enemy towards a player, often leading to combat.
AJ (Ass Jam): Slang for a surprise attack or interference in a fight, often when a third party engages an ongoing battle.
Buff: A temporary enhancement to a character's attributes or abilities, such as increased damage or defense.
BG (Battlegroup): A group of players organized to participate in large-scale PvP (Player versus Player) activities, such as RvR (Realm versus Realm).
Bind: The act of setting a character’s respawn location at a bind stone, typically found in major cities or towns. When a character dies, they will resurrect at their bound location unless revived by a player.
Cooldown: The time period required before a spell, ability, or item can be used again.
CC (Crowd Control): Spells or abilities that control or disable enemies, such as stuns or snares.
Critical Hit: A powerful attack that deals extra damage, often triggered randomly.
Cata (Catacombs): A DAoC expansion that introduced new zones, classes, and instanced dungeons.
CL (Champion Level): A progression system introduced in the Catacombs expansion that allows characters to gain additional abilities and skills beyond standard leveling.
Debuff: A temporary effect that reduces an enemy's attributes or abilities, weakening them for a period of time.
DOT (Damage Over Time): Spells or effects that inflict damage over a set duration, rather than all at once.
Dungeon: A PvE area where players can group together to defeat powerful NPCs or complete quests.
Dual-wield: The ability for a character to wield two one-handed weapons simultaneously, increasing attack speed.
DPS (Damage Per Second): A measurement of how much damage a player or ability deals over time. Also used to describe characters or classes that specialize in dealing damage.
DC (Disconnected): Indicates that a player has lost connection to the game.
DB (Deathblow): The final hit that kills an enemy, often credited to the last person who dealt damage before the enemy dies. It signifies the player who landed the blow that brought the enemy’s health to zero.
EXP (Experience Points): Points gained by characters for completing tasks or defeating enemies, which contribute to leveling up.
Farming: The act of repeatedly killing certain enemies or gathering resources to collect loot or experience.
FG (Full Group): A group consisting of the maximum number of players allowed (typically 8 in DAoC).
FGA (Full Group of Albs): A full group of Albion players.
FGH (Full Group of Hibs): A full group of Hibernian players.
FGM (Full Group of Mids): A full group of Midgard players.
FoB (Forward Operating Base): A strategic location in the Frontiers used as a staging ground for realm forces. These bases provide a temporary foothold in enemy territory, allowing players to regroup, resupply, and launch attacks more effectively.
GTAoE (Ground Target Area of Effect): A spell or ability that targets a specific area on the ground, affecting all enemies within that area. The player selects the location where the effect will occur, and all enemies within the designated zone are impacted.
Grind: Repeatedly performing tasks (such as killing mobs or collecting resources) to level up or acquire items.
Guild: A player-organized group that works together for common objectives, such as PvE or RvR content.
Heal: A spell or ability that restores health to a player or NPC.
Hib (Hibernia): One of the three realms in DAoC, inspired by Celtic mythology, home to the Celts, Sylvans, Shars, Firbolgs, Elves and Lurikeens.
Hot (Heal Over Time): A healing effect that gradually restores health over a set period.
Hookpoints: Hookpoints are designated spots in keeps and towers where players can place NPC guards, support NPCs, or siege towers to aid in defense or offense. They appear when Shift + Right-clicking a keep or tower, allowing players to spend gold, bounty points, or keep contracts to deploy units or structures.
Inc (Incoming): A term used to alert the group that enemies are approaching or an attack is incoming.
Instancing: Creating a unique version of a dungeon or area for a specific group of players to explore without other players interfering.
Kite: A strategy where a player fights an enemy while maintaining distance, often used by ranged characters.
Kill Steal: The act of dealing the final blow to an enemy that another player was already fighting, often considered unsporting.
LFG (Looking for Group): A term used to indicate a player is seeking a group to join for activities such as dungeons or RvR.
Leveling: The process of gaining experience points to increase a character's level.
Loot: Items obtained by defeating enemies or completing objectives, including weapons, armor, and resources.
LoS (Line of Sight): A term referring to whether a target is visible and within range for an attack, heal, or spell to be successfully cast. Obstructions like walls or terrain can break LoS.
LD (Link Dead): Similar to DC, this means a player's connection to the game has been lost, but they may still be visible in the game world until the server fully removes their character.
Mana: A resource used to cast spells; each spell typically consumes a portion of a character's mana.
MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online): A genre of games that features a large number of players interacting in a virtual world.
Melee: Close combat; fighting at a short range with physical weapons.
Mob: A term for a non-player enemy (NPC) that can be attacked, often used for creatures in PvE.
Nerf: A change to the game that weakens a class, ability, or item, often in response to balancing issues.
NPC (Non-Player Character): A character controlled by the game rather than by a player, often providing quests or being an enemy to fight.
OOM (Out of Mana): A caster has run out of mana and cannot use spells.
OOP (Out of Power): Similar to OOM; in DAoC, "power" is used instead of "mana" for some classes.
PBAoE (Point Blank Area of Effect): A spell or ability that affects all enemies within a small radius around the caster, typically used for close-range combat or defense.
PVP (Player versus Player): A game mode where players fight against each other, rather than fighting NPCs.
PVE (Player versus Environment): A game mode where players fight against NPCs or complete quests.
Procs: Automatic effects that trigger under certain conditions, such as additional damage or healing when a weapon strikes.
PL (Powerlevel): The act of rapidly leveling a lower-level character with the help of a higher-level character or group.
Peel: In PvE, this refers to drawing enemy attention away from allies, usually by attacking or stunning enemies to protect casters or healers. In PvP/RvR, peeling means using crowd control (CC) abilities or styles—such as slows, roots, mezzes, or stuns—on enemies attacking your allies, creating space for them to escape or reposition.
Pull: The act of luring a mob or group of mobs towards a specific location, often to engage them in a safer or controlled setting.
PoC (Passage of Conflict): A dungeon beneath the Frontiers with entrances in all three central frontier zones: Breifine (Hibernia), Pennine Mountains (Albion), and Jamtland Mountains (Midgard). At its deepest point lies the entrance to Summoner’s Hall.
Quest: An in-game task or mission that a player can complete for rewards, such as experience or items.
Queue: A list of players waiting for an event, such as a raid or RvR match, to begin.
Ranged: Combat at a distance, typically using bows, crossbows, or magic spells.
Realm: One of the three factions in the game (Albion, Hibernia, or Midgard) that players choose to align with.
Respec: The process of resetting a character’s skills or abilities, usually in exchange for a fee.
ROG (Random Object Generator): Items with randomly generated stats, often dropped by mobs rather than being predefined loot.
Rupt (Interrupt): Preventing an enemy from casting spells or using abilities by hitting them with attacks or CC (crowd control) effects.
Skirmish: A small-scale battle, often involving only a few players or a small group of enemies.
Spellcasting: The act of using magic to cast spells, usually requiring mana.
Spawn: The reappearance of enemies, NPCs, or resources after they have been defeated or gathered.
SI (Shrouded Isles): A DAoC expansion that added new zones, races, and classes to the game.
Tank/Tanking: The role of absorbing damage from enemies to protect more fragile allies, usually performed by Warriors or other high-defense classes.
Train: A tactic where enemies are intentionally pulled in large groups to overwhelm an opponent, or a situation where mobs are deliberately aggroed onto players.
ToA (Trials of Atlantis): An expansion introducing Master Levels, Artifacts, and underwater zones, heavily focused on PvE content.
Template: A character’s optimized setup, including gear, stats, and abilities, designed for maximum effectiveness.
Timer: A cooldown on an ability or item that prevents it from being used again until the cooldown period has expired.
Vault: A bank or storage system where players can store extra items or gear.
Wipe: The complete failure of a group or raid, often resulting in the death of all players involved.
WTB (Wanting to Buy): A term used in trading to indicate that a player is seeking to purchase specific items.
Zerg: A large, overwhelming force of players, typically used in RvR or sieging, that swarms enemies to achieve victory.
