Take a moment to reflect on the objectives of this professional learning module before going through the summaries. There is a task you will complete after viewing information on this page.

Objectives:

By completing this module, learners will be able to:

Deconstructing Standards

In deconstructing standards, we break down regular standards into simple and explicit learning targets.

When we deconstruct standards, we see what knowledge, reasoning proficiencies, and skills students need to be successful.

Graphic Organizers

A graphic organizer is a helpful tool used by educators as a guide to deconstruct standards.

In using the graphic organizer, it will contain all unwrapped concepts and skills.

Identifying Learning Targets

The objectives help the teacher to know what they are teaching for the day, and the learning targets tell students what they will learn for the day. Learning targets fall into four categories: Knowledge Targets; Reasoning Targets; Process/Skill Targets and Product Targets.

Common Formative Assessments

Deconstructing standards appropriately will assist educators to align them with common formative assessments.

In creating assessments that are aligned to standards, it will allow teachers to develop and communicate the pathway for students learning progression.
