Estimated Completion Time: 30 minutes
Before You Begin: On this page, you will be diving deeper into deconstructing standards by using the steps in the Deconstruction Process image below. You will watch a video about the four steps used to unwrap/deconstruct standards. You will then complete three tasks to wrap up your learning.
A...B...C...Deconstruction
Through collaborative PLCs, teachers work on breaking down standards that will be in simple, clear, student friendly language. The image above simplifies the deconstruction process in four simple steps.
Task 1: Watch the video below to learn more about the four steps for unwrapping standards. The focus here is the acronym WALT. You may take notes in your HyperDoc for reference.
Task 2: In your HyperDoc, jot down the major takeaways from the video. Specifically, focus on the section about student-friendly learning objectives. Does your district have something in place to help with this process? If not, how can you use the acronym or one like it as you work through the deconstruction process?
Let's Practice
Task 3: Using the ABC Deconstruction process above, deconstruct the following Math standard.
NC.3.OA.3 Solve multiplication word problems with factors up to and including 10. Represent the problem using arrays, pictures, and/or equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
