What is DCE4Change?
European schools are currently engaged in a process of digitalisation with the overarching objective of providing students with education in digital citizenship. The Council of Europe asserts that digital citizenship encompasses the set of skills deemed essential for individuals to work, live, and share in digital environments positively.
The objective of the project DCE4Change is to enhance the digitalisation processes of the partner schools by fostering the digital skills of their students in a context of transnational cooperation.
Partner schools
Four European schools are participating in this project: Institut Lacetània in Manresa (Spain) as the coordinating school, the Kaufmännische Schule Göppingen (Germany), the 3rd Senior High School of Kavala (Greece), and the Liceo Scientifico G. B. Morgagni of Rome (Italy).
Why have we carried out this project?
The motivation for this project arises from the fact that our schools have been working on implementing and improving the digitalisation plans promoted by our educational administrations. These plans must involve the teaching of the so-called digital citizenship, i.e., the set of necessary skills and values in order to act appropriately and efficiently in a digital context of study, work and social interaction.
Identified needs
In order to identify our needs, the schools involved in this project have used a reduced version of the questionnaire provided by the Selfie for Teachers tool. The results showed that we share the goals of developing the digital competences of our staff, improving the equipment and connectivity of our schools, and educating our students as digital citizens. Nevertheless, we share a significant deficit in digital citizenship education in the students of post-compulsory schooling.
Project goals
Our current main goal is to educate students as digital citizens. This goal involves not only ensuring the proper use of personal and learning devices, but also fostering the development of appropriate and effective ways to interact with people and information through media and technology.
To address this shared goal, the project partners aim to design and deliver cross-disciplinary training in the field of cyber citizenship. This training will be offered to students within a framework of transnational cooperation and will include guidance on the correct and responsible use of AI for learning purposes.
