Published by the European Commission in 2022, DigComp 2.2 is an updated framework that defines digital competence in contemporary society. It outlines 21 competencies across five key areas: information and data literacy; communication and collaboration; content creation; safety; and problem solving. The update includes more than 250 new examples covering topics such as AI, misinformation, remote working, and digital well-being. The framework supports citizens, educators, and policymakers in assessing and improving digital skills across eight proficiency levels, thereby helping Europe to achieve its digital goals by 2030.
DigComp 2.2 organises its 21 competencies in a straightforward way to support teaching and learning. Each competency includes a title and a brief description, along with a progression of proficiency levels: foundation (A1–A2), intermediate (B1–B2), advanced (C1–C2), and highly specialized.
In order to demonstrate the usefulness of DigComp 2.2 as a tool for addressing the different aspects of digital citizenship, our project links the activities we propose to the competencies included in the updated framework.
