The Transparency in Learning and Teaching (or TiLT) framework involves stating the purpose, tasks and criteria for any forward-facing instructions or assignments to make them more relatable and understandable to the reader. It causes the instructor to think more deeply about assignments, connect them with the outcomes of the course, structure the process by providing steps or an example, and communicate how the assignment will be assessed. The benefits to the students are that they understand the assignment's relevance to the course and their lives and have a better understanding of the requirements and expected quality. Structuring assignments this way has been shown to increase student success.
