Background
Understanding the unique experiences of students is an essential step to creating an environment in which they can thrive and learn. There are many different ways that this can be achieved by taking into account the diversity of students with whom we interact, the issues that prevent or ensure equity in the way those students engage with our area of the college, and the steps we take to promote a sense of inclusion. All of these relate to an overarching goal of social justice, which aims to fairly distribute resources, rights, and opportunities to everyone within our society.

Many of us are uncomfortable with conflict, but having different opinions is essential to innovation! By embracing our differences, listening to understand rather than respond, finding common ground, and validating others' points of view even when we disagree, we can have effective conversations about anything!
