Summer School Updates

Here you will find all of the updated and latest information regarding District 30 Summer School 2024.

Friday, June 14:

Dear District 30 Summer School Families,

Thank you for a smooth and easy first week of summer school! We hope the experience has been as joyful for you and your children as it has been for us.

Attendance. If you know your child will be absent, arriving late, or leaving early, please notify the office at summerschool@district30.org so we can adjust our attendance accordingly. Thank you!

NO SUMMER SCHOOL on the following national holidays:

Warm Weather. As the weather continues to warm up, please send your child to summer school with a filled water bottle and sunscreen already applied, as several classes go outside throughout the course of the day. We will use this chart to guide our decision-making on outside classes and play time.

Arrival and Pick-Up. Please remember that unless they have K-2 siblings, children entering grades 3-8 need to be dropped off and picked up by the front entrance, off Sherman Drive. Children entering Pre-K through grade 2 should be picked up and dropped off by the east (gym) entrance, off of Shermer Road.

Please speak with your child about your family’s pick-up and drop-off plans to ensure they’re comfortable knowing where they need to be. We have our staff available to assist, but it’s always helpful when kids know the plan ahead of time. Thank you!

Service Learning Project. From students in the Service Learning Class:

Summer School Service Learning is hosting a car wash fundraiser on Thursday, June 20 from 8:45-10:10 a.m.in the bus lane at Maple School.  Proceeds from the car wash will go towards Gigi's Playhouse, a national organization based in Hoffman Estates supporting children with Down syndrome. Suggested donation is $5 per car. We look forward to seeing you there!

Tuesday, June 11:

WOW! What an amazing first day. Our drop-off and pick-up procedures were smooth, students were smiling in the hallways, and folks had a great time. We got lots of fist bumps, “thumbs up” and “10 out of 10’s” on the way out the doors!

A few reminders to review and share with your children:

Arrival Times. The block schedule for summer school runs as follows:

8:30-9:25: Block A

9:30-10:25: Block B

10:30-11:25: Block C

11:30-12:25: Block D

Please plan to have your child arrive no earlier than five minutes before their first class is scheduled to begin, when there will be staff available to supervise the transition.

Snack. Your child is welcome to bring their own personal water bottle and a healthy, allergy-friendly snack each day of summer school. Time will be given to kids to eat snacks as they need.

Car Line. We appreciate your patience and cooperation at the beginning and end of the day. With construction at Glenbrook North High School, we are working hard to keep our driveways and parking lots moving smoothly and safely.

If you are parking in our East Lot for K-2 pick-up, please refrain from parking in the accessible parking spaces (marked with signs and paint). Thank you!

Park District Beyond the Bell.  847-975-3090

Drop-off areas. Please remember that unless they have young siblings, children entering grades 3-8 need to be dropped off and picked up by the front entrance, off Sherman Ave.

Dashboard name tags. Having children’s names displayed prominently on the dashboard has made our process much easier! We have staff members who can check with you to help bring your children to your vehicle. This step is especially important at the PreK-2 levels.

Thank you for all you do to support our work here in D30 Summer School. Here’s to another great day tomorrow!

Tuesday, June 4th:

OPENING DAY

Tuesday, June 11th is the first day of summer school classes! Students in Block "A" should arrive at Maple School no earlier than 8:25am and be picked up no later than five minutes after their last class. If your child has any medication (epi-pens, inhalers, allergy medication, etc), please bring it to our school nurse between 10-12 pm on Monday, June 10. If needed, parents can also drop medications off on the first day of summer school.

Tips and Tricks

Looking for a few opening day “hacks” from the pros? Consider these tips to make the day easier:

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES

Please follow the attached drop-off / pick-up procedures: Traffic Pattern

We dismiss younger students a few minutes early to allow parents time to park in the lot and come to the east entrance of the building (by the gym) to pick up their child. If your student is leaving with other children, please make sure they all know their meeting spot, or that it's noted on your student's schedule.

Otherwise, at the 12:25 dismissal, teachers stand outside the building with their last class to help manage and support the dismissal process. Please help our teachers by:

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class, so it is expected parents notify the office if students are absent. Please contact the Maple Summer School Office at (847) 400-8902 or email summerschool@district30.org to report any future absences.

HEALTH OFFICE

A school nurse is available to assist students throughout the school day. The nurse will report any significant student illness to the parent as soon as possible. Students wishing to see the school nurse should first report to their assigned class, unless there is an emergency.

Students are not allowed to carry medication of any kind while in school. The only exception is for students who may self-administer an inhaler with a signed parent authorization on file in the health office. Medication must be brought to school in a labeled container that indicates dosage and time of administration and kept in the health office. Before any medication is dispensed, a doctor's prescription, accompanied by any special school forms, should be submitted to the school.

Please bring in any medication (epi-pens, inhalers, allergy medication, forms, etc) between 10-12 on Monday, June 10. All medication should be picked up by a parent by the child’s last day. Any medication left after summer school will be properly discarded.

WHAT TO BRING

All students are encouraged to bring an allergy-safe snack (no nut, sesame, or seed products) and water bottle each day. Students in academic classes should have a notebook, pencil case, free-reading book, calculator, etc. Students in athletic classes should be prepared with the proper clothing and shoes (no cleats). Younger students are strongly encouraged to keep an extra pair of clothes in their backpack in case of emergencies.

We are looking forward to yet another wonderful summer with your children! Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions by emailing summerschool@district30.org. You may also want to review our FAQ page on our website: Summer School FAQ
