Block D Classes for incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten students

CD01 Mini Camp (incoming Pre-K)

Need a Pre-K program that balances school readiness and fun? Look no further. This two-hour session is for children ages 4-5 who are entering Pre-K or Kindergarten. Kids learn foundational skills necessary for early academic success, all while getting the social interaction needed to develop social and play skills. This C/D session will have a literacy and play focus. Each day includes time in the gym for physical activity, as well as routines and activities that will get children ready for a school setting. Students must sign up for both C and D blocks, and attend from 10:30-12:25.

D02 Lil’ Scientists (incoming K)  

It’s never too early to start learning about the world around us! This class offers hands-on experiences for children curious about science and the way things work. Students will experiment and explore the building blocks of chemistry and physics through fun activities. This class promises to be icky, drippy, slippy…and fun!

Academic Focused

D03 First Grade Readiness (incoming 1st)

This class reviews academic skills to better prepare students for first grade. Through class activities, partner games and independent work, students will participate in activities to reinforce the reading and math concepts they learned in kindergarten.

D04 Second Grade Readiness (incoming 2nd)

This class reviews academic skills to better prepare students for second grade. Through class activities, partner games and independent work, students will participate in activities to reinforce the reading and math concepts they learned in first grade.

D05 Dino Dig (incoming 1st-2nd)

Students dive into the past as they learn about these prehistoric reptiles that once roamed the Earth. Using investigative skills, students will examine fossils and bones as well examine adaptations and characteristics of different species.

Art/Music/Theater Focused

D06 Leaps ‘n Beats (incoming 1st-2nd)

Get your heart pumping with an exciting dance class combining jazz and hip-hop as well as tips on how to be healthy!  Students will learn choreographed dances, too!! This is an active class, so participants should wear shoes and clothes appropriate for physical activity.

D07 Little Picassos (incoming 1st-2nd) 

Get ready for an adventure in arts and crafts! Young artists in Little Picassos can dabble with various media to create their own masterpieces. Children will learn how to handle and use new materials, and will develop their use of basic art concepts. Each week, there will be a new theme that students will craft projects on, including Fourth of July fun!

D08 Children’s Theater (incoming 1st-2nd)

Students will participate in creative and traditional dramatic activities including improvisation, pantomime, and skits. This is a course designed to free children's inhibitions!  Group plays, choral readings, and solo work will be utilized. There will be a culminating production where family and friends are invited to enjoy the show.

Academic Focused

D09 Word for Word (3-5)

Let’s have some fun with language! Students in this class will experience literacy from a wide range of experiences. Students will read and write, but that’s not all! This class is an activity-oriented way to use language skills across many areas. Participants will participate in reader’s theater, storytelling, vocabulary games, and more. 

D12 Science Explorations (3-5)

Move over, Einstein! Students in Science Exploration will have hands-on opportunities to explore basic concepts of physics and environmental science. Kids will conduct experiments to learn about electricity, magnetism, water pressure and air, and will also develop knowledge about environmental issues.

Fun Focused

D10 Tabletop Games (3-5) 

We’re taking it back to the basics with a variety of games that can be played right on your table! Students will use strategies, communication and problem solving skills to play different games in small groups. Expect fun, friendship, and teamwork! 

Art/Music/Theater Focused

D11 Bullet Journaling (3-5)

Bullet Journaling, often called BuJo, is a handwritten day planner, diary, and written meditation. It encourages students to coordinate their lives into a system that makes sense to them, allowing students to be more productive and reach their personal and academic goals. Students can create their own sections in order to log their daily to-do’s, long-term goals, notes, and weekly/monthly calendars.  Students will customize and categorize tasks with the use of symbols and short-form sentences, while expressing their interests creatively and developing their executive functioning skills. Materials will be provided. 

CD16 Summer Musical (3-5) 

Are you Broadway bound? Enhance your singing, dancing and acting skills and prepare for the big stage by putting on a show! We will audition, rehearse, and perform “Annie” at the end of the summer! This course is a double block spanning Block C and Block D. Students attend from 10:30-12:25 daily.

Social Studies Focused

D13 Around the World (3-5)

We’re off to see the world! In this interactive class, students experience life in other countries by participating in games, craft-making and more. Participants will read, watch, make, and do as they learn about geography, culture, food, and customs around the world.

Movement Focused

D14 Fun on the Field (3-4)

Students will enjoy activities, adventures, teamwork, and fitness as they take advantage of the beautiful sun and fun in the outdoor athletic fields at Maple. Walking, running, playing, and jumping will just be the beginning of the activities we have in store for them! Sports such as soccer, football, softball, rugby, capture the flag, ultimate frisbee, and disc golf may be enjoyed during this class.

Block D Classes for incoming 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students

Art/Music/Theater Focused

D18 ART STUDIO (6-8) *

Do you love working with paper? Wire? Paper mache? Paint?  Water colors?  Ceramics?  All of the above? This course is for you! Participants will work with a wide variety of media and each student will have the opportunity to throw (clay) on a wheel. *There is an additional $10 supplies and materials fee.

D28 Interest in Pinterest (6-8) *

Got an Interest in Pinterest? This aesthetically-pleasing course is designed to engage students in a variety of Pinterest-worthy projects. Activities will range from a variety of woodworking art to scarf-making and much more! *There is an additional $10 supplies and materials fee.


Academic Focused

D19 Math Competition (6-8)

Students will work with one of Maple's Math Team coaches to improve their problem-solving skills. They will join the AOPS.com community, and be given daily time to work through the Art Of Problem Solving personalized and guided pathways. Students will also be given the opportunity to practice the important skill of working together as a team. Math competitions consist of both individual and team components. All mathematicians are welcome to join us!

D22 ESY Math/ELA (6-8) 

This math and English language arts class is for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who qualify for Extended School Year Programming. This class is only for current District 30 students who currently are served by an IEP. Enrollment is by invitation only. Please contact your child's case manager for more details. You will need an access code prior to registration.

D23 Caudill Book Club (5-8)

The Caudills are a readers’ choice award for upper-grade novels in Illinois. In this course, students will read their way through a variety of Caudill Award nominees, discussing and sharing their passion for reading great books. Do not miss this chance to experience some of the best in youth literature!

D20 Life Skills (6-8)

Welcome to life (the stuff they DON’T teach you in school)! Join us for a fun role-play where you will take a career survey to find your dream job. With your teacher's help, you will decide where you'd like to live, create a budget, find an apartment, buy a car (if needed), apply for a credit card, open a bank account, register to vote, and set up your new life! Once you've created your possible future life, you will practice real-life skills such as cooking a basic meal, car maintenance, and more.


Fun Focused

D21 Become an Escape Room Hacker (6-8)

Love escape rooms and breakout games? Do you ever wonder how they do it? Join our class to test your skills and learn how to create your own! You’l leave our class ready to hack any escape room!


Movement Focused

D24 Basketball (7-8)

It's time for tip-off! In this basketball clinic, students will work on the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and basketball game sense. This course will offer a variety of experiences including physical conditioning, drills, and scrimmages. All skill levels are welcome!

D25 Net & Ball Sports (7-8)

Do you love team and individual sports like pickleball, badminton, or volleyball? This course will offer a variety of experiences with physical activities including drills, scrimmages, and game play. All skill levels are welcome!

D26 Fun on the Field (5-6)
