Block C Classes for incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten students

CD01 Mini Camp (incoming PreK-K)

Need a Pre-K program that balances school readiness and fun? Look no further. This two-hour session is for children ages 4-5 who are entering Pre-K or Kindergarten. Kids learn foundational skills necessary for early academic success, all while getting the social interaction needed to develop social and play skills. This C/D session will have a literacy and play focus. Each day includes time in the gym for physical activity, as well as routines and activities that will get children ready for a school setting. Students must sign up for both C and D blocks, and attend from 10:30-12:25.

C02 Little Picassos (incoming K)

Get ready for an adventure in arts and crafts! Young artists in Little Picassos can dabble with various media to create their own masterpieces. Children will learn how to handle and use new materials, and will develop their use of basic art concepts. Each week, there will be a new theme that students will craft projects on, including Fourth of July fun!

Academic Focused

C03 First Grade Readiness (incoming 1st)

This class reviews academic skills to better prepare students for first grade. Through class activities, partner games and independent work, students will participate in activities to reinforce the literacy and math concepts they learned in kindergarten.

C04 Second Grade Readiness (incoming 2nd)

This class reviews academic skills to better prepare students for second grade. Through class activities, partner games and independent work, students will participate in activities to reinforce the literacy and math concepts they learned in first grade.

C05 Dino Dig (incoming 1st-2nd)

Students dive into the past as they learn about these prehistoric reptiles that once roamed the Earth. Using investigative skills, students will examine fossils and bones as well examine adaptations and characteristics of different species.


Social Studies Focused

C06 My Neighborhood, My World (incoming 1st-2nd)

This course allows students to learn about their neighborhood and community. Topics such as knowing your address, learning about special community members, and how to be an asset to your community will be covered. 


Art/Music/Theater Focused

C08 Open Gym (incoming 1st-2nd)

Do you enjoy sports of all kinds? Open gym gives students the opportunity to choose fun games and other P.E. activities. Whether it’s team sports, relay races, or fitness activities, there are lots of ways to enjoy physical play with classmates. Let the games begin!

Academic Focused

C09 Word for Word (3-5)

Let’s have some fun with language! Students in this class will experience literacy from a wide range of experiences. Students will read and write, but that’s not all! This class is an activity-oriented way to use language skills across many areas. Participants will participate in reader’s theater, storytelling, vocabulary games, and more. 

C10 Bluestem Book Club (3-4)

The Bluestems are a readers’ choice award for middle-grade novels in Illinois. In this course, students will read their way through a variety of Bluestem Award nominees, discussing and sharing their passion for reading great books. Do not miss this chance to experience some of the best in youth literature!

C11 Future Mathletes (3-5) *New!

Are you ready for a thrilling mathematical journey? Join us this summer for an exciting exploration of problem-solving in mathematics! This course is tailored for students of all math levels who want to enhance their problem-solving skills while fostering a love for mathematics. Led by an experienced math competition team coach, students will engage in a series of interactive sessions designed to challenge and inspire. Through a variety of fun and engaging activities, participants will learn valuable problem-solving strategies and techniques that they can apply to a wide range of mathematical problems. Whether you're a budding mathematician looking to sharpen your skills or someone who simply enjoys a good mathematical challenge, this course is for you! Come join us on this exciting Math Adventure and discover the thrill of problem-solving like never before.

C13 Science Explorations (3-5)

Move over, Einstein! Students in Science Exploration will have hands-on opportunities to explore basic concepts of physics and environmental science. Kids will conduct experiments to learn about electricity, magnetism, water pressure and air, and will also develop knowledge about environmental issues.

C12 Interest in Pinterest (3-5) *

Got an Interest in Pinterest? This aesthetically-pleasing course is designed to engage students in a variety of Pinterest-worthy projects. Activities will range from a variety of woodworking art to scarf-making and much more! *There is an additional $10 supplies and materials fee.


CD16 Summer Musical (3-5)

Are you Broadway bound? Enhance your singing, dancing and acting skills and prepare for the big stage by putting on a show! We will audition, rehearse, and perform “Annie” at the end of the summer! This course is a double block spanning Block C and Block D. Students attend from 10:30-12:25 daily.

Movement Focused

C14 Net & Ball Sports (3-4)

Do you love team and individual sports like pickleball, badminton, or volleyball? This course will offer a variety of experiences with physical activities including drills, scrimmages, and game play. All skill levels are welcome!

C15 Yoga and Mindfulness (3-5)

Take it to the mat! Classes explore yoga poses, breathing exercises, visual imagery and relaxation techniques while conveying lessons in self-expression, body image, positive thinking, and environmental awareness. All participants should bring a yoga mat (which can be left in the classroom, if needed). Namaste!

C17 Become an Escape Room Hacker (4-5)

Love escape rooms and breakout games? Join our class to test your skills and learn how to create your own! You’l leave our class ready to hack any escape room!

C18 ART STUDIO (6-8) *

Do you love working with paper? Wire? Paper mache? Paint?  Water colors?  Ceramics?  All of the above? This course is for you! Participants will work with a wide variety of media and each student will have the opportunity to throw (clay) on a wheel. *There is an additional $10 supplies and materials fee.

C19 Caudill Book Club (5-8)

The Caudills are a readers’ choice award for upper-grade novels in Illinois. In this course, students will read their way through a variety of Caudill Award nominees, discussing and sharing their passion for reading great books. Do not miss this chance to experience some of the best in youth literature!

C20 Science Challenges (6-8)

Students will engage in a variety of STEM-based design and construction challenges. This hands-on class will allow students to work individually and collaboratively through the engineering design process to create a product to meet the challenge's criteria and constraints. Students will have fun testing and evaluating their designs while also competing against the peers. This class will hone student's creativity, perseverance and engineering skills.

C21 Writing Workshop (6-8)

Are you an aspiring poet? A would-be novelist, or a potential essayist? Are you an eager or passionate writer? This class, focused on developing our craft through writing community, is for you! Participants in this course will engage in deep and meaningful opportunities to create and refine written pieces. 

C23 ESY Math/ELA (6-8) 

This math and English language arts class is for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who qualify for Extended School Year Programming. This class is only for current District 30 students who currently are served by an IEP. Enrollment is by invitation only. Please contact your child's case manager for more details. You will need an access code prior to registration.

C26 Middle School Readiness (6)

Students will learn the necessary skills to help them be successful in middle school. Lessons will cover organization, time management, study strategies, decision making, goal setting, and much more. Students will have an opportunity to learn about the middle school academic classes, athletics, extra-curricular activities, schedules, grades, technology, and locks/lockers.


Movement Focused

C24 Fun on the Field (7-8)

Students will enjoy activities, adventures, teamwork, and fitness as they take advantage of the beautiful sun and fun in the outdoor athletic fields at Maple. Walking, running, playing, and jumping will just be the beginning of the activities we have in store for them! Sports such as soccer, football, softball, rugby, capture the flag, ultimate frisbee, and disc golf may be enjoyed during this class.

C25 Running Club (5-8)

On your marks, get set, go! This running clinic is geared towards runners of all levels of experience. Students will work on physical conditioning, as well as running form, speed, and stamina. Activities include warm-ups and stretches, drills, and runs of varying times and distances.

Art/Music/Theater Focused

C22 Orchestra (5-8) 

This class is intended for students who have an instrument and have at least one year of playing experience. We will learn and perform music in a variety of styles. Let's have some fun making music this summer!
