FAQ

Where is District 30 Summer School located?

Summer school will take place at Maple School (2370 Shermer Road, Northbrook, IL 60062) We will continue our practice of prioritizing registration for District 30 families first, and then opening registration for out-of-district families, if enrollment allows.

How much does summer school cost?

The fee is $195/class for District 30 families and $230/class for Out-of-District families, if enrollment allows.

How do I register my child for summer school?

Parents should return to the D30 Summer School homepage and follow the link on or after the registration date. Parents should sign up students for their fall 2024 grade level. For example, a student who is currently a 5th grader will need to sign up for classes for 6th-8th grade classes

When can I register my child for summer school?

Registration for in-district families will begin Thursday, February 15 at 10am.

Is my child allowed to take less than four classes?

Yes! Families may choose to be in summer school for 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours daily.

How will I be informed of upcoming dates and events?

After registration, families are notified of upcoming dates and events via email and each building's Friday Flyer. Please note, we send informative emails about once a month prior to summer school and once a week during summer school. If you are not receiving our emails, it is possible they are being sent directly to your spam folder. Please take the necessary steps to make sure you are receiving our correspondence.

What should my child bring to summer school?

Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle each day. The age of the child and the classes in which they are enrolled will determine what other items to bring. We highly encourage students to bring their own pencil boxes with markers, crayons, glue, etc to use in their classes. Teachers are encouraged to take students outside when the weather permits, so sending students with sunscreen already applied at home is very helpful, as our staff will not apply lotion sunscreen. If students are taking academic classes, they should have a notebook, pen/pencil, free-reading book, calculator, etc. If students are taking athletic classes, they should be prepared with the proper clothing and shoes. For younger students especially, it is strongly encouraged they have an extra pair of clothes in their backpack, just in case of emergencies.

What health and safety guidelines are in place during summer school?

Health protocols in place during the school year will be maintained in the Summer School Program. Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 follows the health guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). IDPH- Communicable Disease School Nurse Guidance

What is the procedure for picking up my child after summer school?

Teachers of Pre-K and Kindergarten students will supervise and start to dismiss about five minutes early to allow parents the time to park in the lot and meet their child outside. Otherwise, at the 12:25 dismissal, teachers stand outside the building with their last class to help manage and support the dismissal process. Please help our teachers by not parking in the pick-up lane, obeying all signs, and driving slowly to keep our staff and students safe. Pick-up is safest in front of our building and your patience is always appreciated. Please click here for the traffic pattern.

Is transportation available for summer school?

There is no bus service for summer school. However, we are partnered with the Northbrook Park District to provide transportation throughout the duration of our four-week program. This is a service for families who have also registered their child for either of the afternoon summer camps. The Northbrook Park District picks up students at the 12:25 dismissal. If you wish for your child to take the bus from summer school to the NPD camp, please make sure you let both us and the camp know when you register. In addition, for students who walk or ride bikes to school, there is a crossing guard at Willow Rd/Greenwood Rd and Western/Techny for students’ safety from 8-8:30am and 12:30-1:00pm.

What should I do if my child is going to be late or absent from summer school?

Attendance is taken each block. Just as with regular school procedures, please call the office or email summerschool@district30.org if students are going to be late or absent from summer school.

What should I do if our summer plans change and I need to cancel registration?

We understand that plans change. If this happens, please email summerschool@district30.org. We will refund your registration, less a $25/hour cancellation fee, up until May 24th. No refunds after May 24th.
