Our FRC Team 8717, Cyber Vipers, is from Desert Oasis High School, Las Vegas, Nevada. Since we started in 2021, we have made huge strides in our team’s and individuals’ progress and in our community! Our team has grown to a total of 11 specialized sub-teams to account for our growth in versatility and skill from the past years. In our community, we've had an immense impact, from volunteering for 20 FIRST events to advocating for STEAM classes in our school.
When we meet, we work together to help develop STEAM skills while inspiring and encouraging others to do the same. We also invite diversity in our genders and identities and within our team’s 21 different ethnicities. Through Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition, we help create a community that is full of friends always willing to help one another.
FIRST is a non-profit organization that teaches STEAM skills to students ages 4-18 by immersing them in team-oriented challenges involving building and competing with robots. Students develop problem-solving and team-building skills as well as self-confidence, all guided by FIRST's Core Values of discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun. Additionally, students are guided by FIRST's philosophies of Coopertition and Gracious Professionalism, both hallmarks of the organization's ethos which seek to create a healthy environment for competition with other teams. Through it all, FIRST seeks to prepare today's students to become tomorrow's leaders and innovators. FIRST Robotics Competition, or FRC, is a division of FIRST competitions for students ages 14-18.
