To attend the campout, all scouts, parents and siblings need to do 3 things:

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Parents invited? Yes! All scouts are required to have a chaperone, which is typically a parent or guardian. However, other scout parents can also be a chaperone for your scout if you are not able to make it. If another parent is going to be your scouts chaperone, arrangements need to be made ahead of time with your den leader.

  • What is the Bovey Scout Ranch? This link provides lots of good information about the ranch: Bovay Scout Ranch — Sam Houston Area Council (samhoustonbsa.org). You can find a map of the Ranch here

  • What should we pack? Follow this link and scroll halfway down for the "Preparing for Camp" option for a full recommended packing list. Each family should plan on bringing (or borrowing) a tent, sleeping pad/mat and sleeping bags. If you are interested in borrowing any gear from the Scout Pack, please mention that in the Questions area when registering. In particular, Scouts are required to wear closed-toes-shoes and to have a water bottle.

  • Can I bring a CPAP machine? Yes. We will have a limited number of outlets at camp that can be used for CPAPs

  • What will we do all day? The Bovay Scout Range will facilitate a range of activities for all the scouts. Adults will take turns supporting the scouts during these activities and exploring the camp grounds or relaxing at camp. This years activities will include Archery, BB Ranges, Guided Nature Hike, Sports Field -(Traverse Wall, Gagaball, Kickball, Soccer), Craft/Jack-o-Lantern Carving and Trading Post Games

  • What are the camping arrangements? Out pack will be assigned a large camping spot where we will all camp together. Each family will pitch their own tents but there will be several leaders that can help. Typically scouts camp with their family, though scouts can camp together if they are within 1 year of age of each other. It is NOT permitted for scouts to sleep in a tent with any adults that are not their specific guardian.

  • What will we eat? The Bovay Scout Ranch with provide all meal in a mess hall. All meals will have a vegetarian option; you are encouraged to let the pack know of any additional dietary restrictions when registering. The pack will also provide snacks and drinks at our campsite. Families are also allowed to bring any additional snacks or drinks that you prefer.

  • Do I we need to attend from Friday through Sunday? No. You are welcome to attend for any or all of the program. It is common for part of the group to arrive Friday night, and the rest on Saturday, but we can accommodate any schedule. Flag ceremony starts at 8am on Saturday.
