About Pack 1882

About the Pack

Cub Scout Pack 1882 is a cub scout pack for kids 5-11 years old operating out of the Commonwealth School, and supporting the Austin Parkway Elementary and surrounding area.  There are currently about 50 boys and girls in the Pack. The Pack consists of smaller units called Dens, which typically contain 5-8 members. Dens are organized by age: Tiger Dens for first graders, Wolf Dens for second graders, Bear Dens for third graders, and Webelos Dens for fourth and fifth graders. During fifth grade, or when a boy turns 11, he moves from Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts.

Our Pack 1882's chartering organization is the Congregation Beth El, Sugar Land.  Pack 1882 is part of a larger organization called the Thunder Wolf District, which is part of the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC), which in turn is part of the national organization called Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

What activities do Cub Scouts do?

Your child will work with other Scouts their age in small groups and large groups on a variety of fun and engaging activities. Younger children focus on building awareness of their community and service to their family. Older children will learn useful skills for safely adventuring into the outdoors as well as general life skills. Throughout the program's levels, the boys and girls are given opportunities for leadership and responsibility appropriate to their age and maturity.

 How often do you meet?

There are typically 3 activities a month, though this can vary month to month:

Who runs the Pack?

The most important and most rewarding leadership position in the Pack is that of Den Leader. It cannot be over-emphasized how important the Den Leader is to their child’s Cub Scout experience. The best way to make sure your child has the experience you want them to have is to become a Den Leader. The best way to insure that your Den’s schedule doesn’t conflict with all your other activities is to become the Den Leader. The best way to interact with the boys and girls that will, in many cases, become your child’s best friends into middle school and beyond is to become a Den Leader. It’s also fun and rewarding for you. No experience is necessary – we have a committee full of coaches and mentors who can guide you. Please consider becoming a Den Leader.

The Pack is run by a group of volunteer leaders called the Pack Committee. The Committee consists of 2 or more leaders from each Den, plus other positions like Cubmaster, Committee Chair, and Treasurer. We are always looking to add people to the Committee. Please let us know if you are interested.

If not called upon to be a leader, you may be asked to fill a committee or activity position. We are an active group that, like you, has other commitments (job, family, sports, church, etc.). We require the assistance of our volunteers to keep our Pack going. You will no doubt find, as we have, that the time you spend with your child rewards you in more ways than you can ever imagine.

What is expected from parents?

We hope you will volunteer as a Cub Scout Leader or a Committee Member. If you are unable to do so, there are still a number of things that are expected of you, as a Scout Parent. All parents should:
