In September of 1969, Clayton Junior College opened its doors to students of the metro Atlanta area. In its first years, CJC offered two programs within the Associates of Arts Degree; The 2-year college transfer Associates Degree and the 2-year career Associates Degree. The Department of Visual & Performing Arts was not established until much later in CSU's history, but some of the current programs such as Music and Theatre were offered.
The 2-year College Transfer program offered students two years' worth of credited courses, which could be transferred to a 4-year baccalaureate program within the University System of Georgia.
