Over the years the Clayton State University Department of Visual & Performing Arts has evolved from offering community workshops and Associate degree programs, to comprehensive Baccalaureate programs. Click on the course catalogs below to see how the curriculum for each program has evolved.
From 1969-1971, CJC offered both Music & Art programs under the Two-Year College Transfer program. These programs were under the direction of the Department of Humanities at the time.
By the 80's, the Speech/Drama program was introduced under the Dept. of Humanities. Drama courses were limited, offering only two drama specific courses. The Music program also introduced the Two-Year Career program, similar to vocational/trade programs.
By the 90's CJC was approved by the Board of Regents as a state college and could offer four-year Bachelor's programs. The Music program began offering a Bachelor's degree in Music. The Arts program remained as an Associates program. The Drama program became independent of the Speech program and offered a more drama focused curriculum.
In the early 2000's CJC gained the university title. The Music program became the Music Department, and a variety of track options were offered under the Bachelor of Music program; Music Business, Composition, and Performance. The Drama program was renamed the Theatre program. The Communication's program was introduced.
