Short Description: For this unit I had to complete the database SIMpath, and after that on the discussion board we had to pick a database from the Freely Available A-Z Databases at the Library of Congress. My database was the holocaust encyclopedia. Holocaust Encyclopedia | United States Holocaust Memorial Museum . we had to look into the database and answer these questions When you query the database, what type of information are you presented?, Can you sort the results by any criteria? Date? Relevance?, What type of DBMS do you think they are using?
Hierarchical? Network? Relational? Multidimensional? Object-Oriented Database?
Lesson(s) learned: From this unit I learned how databases organize and store information, so that users can search and find information with ease. While completing these assignments I learned how queries work and how databases can present different kind of information to the users. This could be information like articles, phots and or historical events. I also learned that databases could sort things by relevance or date and many databases use relational DBMS to keep the information organized.
