Project Description: During this assignment I had to search though google news articles to find two that was an example of security or cybersecurity. I had to summarize and validate each.
This article is about how the Director of the FBI, Kash Patel's personal email was hacked by an Iran-linked Handala hack team. This attack was an example of privacy and being hacked but more specifically, a data breach. These hackers were able to obtain personal photos, documents, and emails and then proceeded to leak them to the public. The main person affected by this was Kash Patel but raised some concerns as to the fact that if they could get to his information what about all of our government officials and more private information? What can prevent this? Using strong and unique passwords, multi-factor authentication (MFA), be wary when it comes to phishing emails and suspicious links and frequently check your account for unusual activity.
Who published it? Evan Perez, Sean Lyngaas, and Holmes Lybrand

This article is about a gas billing mix up between two people of the same name. Their account had been connected somehow and when one of the women saw that charges were coming from a different address, she started to become extremely worried as to if her identity was being stolen. This article covers the issue of possible identity theft and data within accounts being switched up. This showed one customer, another's charges and brought confusion as to who had to pay these charges. The people that were affected was Cassandra Morrison and the other costumer who had the same name. Both of these women faced billing issues since their accounts were incorrectly connected. What can we do to prevent this? People should regularly check their accounts for unfamiliar credit card activity, addresses, report suspicious activity immediately, freeze cards if identity theft is suspected, and use strong security account measures.
