Unit 4 Terms & Definitions

• Encryption- The Process of converting information or data into a code, especially to prevent unauthorized access.  

• VPN- A technology that creates a secure, encrypted connection between your device and the internet, allowing you to browse the web privately.  

• Privacy Policy- Legal documents that parties gather that manage a customer's data.  

• Malware- Software that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain access to the computer.  

• Social Engineering- The manipulation of people to trick them into sensitive information that compromises security.  

• Phishing- Sending emails or messages to be from reputable companies to induce individuals to reveal personal information.  

• Ransomware- Software used to extract money from an individual or organization by encrypting or blocking access.
