Unit 1 Terms & Definitions

• Web History timeline- Major milestones and small moments of web history and how it has advanced and the different things that came ought to have it. 

• World wide web (www)- The internet history timeline shows how today’s vast network evolved from the initial concept. 

• Https- Send a request through the network that all who made it agree to make it a request language.  

• Web server- Another computer on the internet with more power 

• Search query- Keyword users type into search engines to find information online. 

• Natural language query- Commands phrases in conversational human language rather than in conversational technical language.  

• Spider- Automated program used by search engines like google and Bing. 

• Digital footprint- Trial of data you create online through activities. 

• What are the 5 basic computer components? CPU, RAM, Storage, Motherboard, input/output devices.  

• What is a file that relates to a computer? Self-contained collection of data or programs of instructions identified by unique names and stored.  

• File extension- A text for a file or file image. (Ex: txt, jpeg)  

• Zip file – Compressed archive that bundles one or more files into a single file. 

• Saas- Cloud based software, where a vendor hosts application makes them available to users over the internet. 

• Digital bubble- Online environment where people encounter information or opinions that reflect and reinforce their own.  

• Generative AI- AI creates new, original contexts like text, images, music, or codes.  

• Prompt- Input, questions or instructions that users provide to an AI to get what they want.  

• What is the difference between the internet and the www? Internet- Physical network connects millions of people globally. WWW- Specific services or systems that run on the internet.  

• URL- The web address that serves as a unique address for a specific resource on the internet. 

• What are the 7 competencies of digital literacy? Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, digital citizenship, information literacy, technical skills, and creativity.
