College Counseling

Seniors:

As far as we know, May 1st is still the deadline to enroll in most colleges. Although we are working remotely, the College Counseling team will work to prioritize seniors in the college application process. We will actively support seniors as we work through any final applications, verification, and financial aid award letter overviews, etc. As a reminder, many college financial aid and admission officers are still working remotely and you can reach out to them via phone or email.

During this remote learning time, we have 3 tasks for Seniors:

Task 1: Senior/ Counselor Check-in

Your college counselor will connect with you directly about setting up a senior check-in. The check-in will review your college applications, financial aid award letters, verification, college choices, and next steps.

Task 2: Continue to send us your college acceptances, financial aid award letters and complete verification paperwork

We are still tracking your acceptances and award letters! Please continue to send over your acceptance and award letters directly to your college counselor via email.

If you and your parents wish to talk over your award letters and college choices over the phone, we are available to do so. Please make an appointment with your counselor.

Task 3: Update your Naviance and Decision Information

We are still tracking your acceptances and award letters! Please continue to send over your acceptance and award letters directly to your college counselor via email.

If you and your parents wish to talk over your award letters and college choices over the phone, we are available to do so. Please make an appointment with your counselor.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have been flagged for verification. What do I do now?

Let us help you figure out what you need to send in. Email your counselor and we will help you gather your materials.

What If I haven't received ANY award letters from any college? Where do I find them?

In the STUDENT PORTAL. Most colleges send information via email or their acceptance letters about how to log into your student portal. On the portal, there is a financial aid section where you can find and accept your financial aid package. Do not accept loans in your portal until you have committed to the college and know for sure you will be taking out the loans.

If the award letter is not on the student portal, you may still need to complete verification paperwork. Find out if you’re missing requirements in the portal. Usually the missing documents can be found under “tasks” or the “student requirements” section.

Award letters can be found in a your EMAIL (school or personal, whichever you used to communicate with the institution) OR MAIL.

Do I have to send over tax transcripts from the IRS?

No, most colleges are willing to receive copies of your 2018 taxes or your parents/ guardians 2018 taxes. Send a signed copy of the 2018 taxes BEFORE you order a tax transcript through the IRS (tax transcript can take between 5-10 business days to receive)

What information do I need to make a college decision before May 1st?

Students should have all of their college application decisions before making a final selection. Students should have all of their award letters so that they and their family can see the cost of each option and make an informed decision about financing their post-secondary option. Students should be able to articulate HOW this college is the right fit for them.
