Week 9 - Editing Principles & Techniques
What worked well:
This was a really cool way to show a timelapse of cleaning the room. It depicts how much work went into the task, but condenses it down to keep the pace of the narrative going.
This was a great way to end the video. The closing of the door times up well with the audio to give a sense of completion.
What a great establishing shot! The lighting, sound, and pacing really sets the scene for something spooky to occur.
The juxtaposition of the inspiring text carved on the amphitheater
with the pensive main character shows the importance and weight of this space and shows how special it is to the main character.
Really cool transition from the land into the ocean world! It shows the diver's preparations to go under and crosses the barrier of air and water along with him.
What I would change:
This scene seems a bit out of place. Since the theme is content creation, I would maybe show how I set up the camera and lighting for this shot beforehand to show how this shot was achieved to tie it into the theme a bit better.
This scene is meant to depict the artist going to and from their studio, but just shows them walking on the stariway. I would add something such as the artist opening the studio door, to give more direction and arrival in the narrative.
I think the lighting is a bit dark, and the character could be framed a bit closer. With just a bit more lighting and focus on the character's face, I think the audience would be able to see his confusion and fear a bit better while still maintaining the spooky quality.
The walking cuts in this video are great and show how far the character is walking to get to their destination, but slow down the pacing of the narrative. I would cut down the duration of these cuts so you can still see the distance traveled, but keep the pace going to keep the audience's interest.
This cut, from the previous scene depicting the possible dangers of nature, is very abrupt and almost overlaps the previous scene. I would possibly crossfade the audio and video to smooth this transition a bit.
