Week 1 - Google Site Map & Reading Response
Week 1 - Google Site Map & Reading Response
Google Site Map
I based this sitemap on the original one I created for the Week 1 Creative Coding project. I again used Adobe XD. The structure stayed basically the same as it was previously, except now the home page links to the About, Creative Coding, and Video & Sound pages, respectively, rather than featuring just the Creative Coding projects. I also added landing pages for both Creative Coding and Video & Sound which take you to the Weekly Projects pages and Final Projects Pages for each class.
Reading Response
Objective: Identify the six "basic visual elements" in a movie or show of your choice and share screen shots on your portfolio website.
*The screenshots used are from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004).
Space: Visual space is the area that the scene takes place in. It also can be the distance between the camera and the scene as well as the size and shape of the screen the scene is displayed on. The space can have depth or be flat. This shot depicts a large space for the characters to move around in.
Line & Shape: Lines are created when there is tonal contrast, or how light or dark objects are compared to each other. Shape is related to Line because you need lines to create shapes. In this shot, the lines forming the phone booth enclose and separate the character from the environment, mirroring their inner emotional struggles.
Tone: This term refers to the brightness of objects, or how much black or white the object contains. It does not refer to emotional affect or audio levels of a scene. Tone may also be referred to as "Value". In this shot, you can see the contrast of the dark background with the brightness of the flame in the foreground.
Color: Color is a powerful visual component that can be difficult to explain and can have different meanings depending on the context of the scene. In this shot, the color of the characters' outfits can be seen as a visual description of their personality up to this point in the film. On the right, the character's robe is brightly colored depicting their over the top personality, while on the left, the character is wearing white, showing that their personality is yet to be depicted.
Movement: This is the initial visual component that catches the audience's eye. Ways that movement are created are by the objects in the scene can move, the camera can move around, and the the point-of-attention of the audience can create movement as they watch the scene. In this shot, there is a lot of movement from all the characters during a fight scene, creating a frenzied effect.
Rhythm: Visual rhythm can be established with the repetition of visual elements. It may form a pattern but not necessarily. An example of this can be seen in the background of this shot, with the diagonal repetition of the Channel 4 News Team logo.
