Week 4 - Creating Video Sequences
Week 4 - Creating Video Sequences
For this project, I wanted to create a kind of "motivational tutorial" so to speak about making abstract art. I wanted to share my method of making something when I'm feeling creative but maybe don't necessarily have a specific idea in mind. My hope is that viewers can use this video as inspiration for their own works and to let go of any fears when it comes to making something new. Art should be fun! It starts out with a blank sheet of paper and I slowly add elements until I show the final product. I chose bright, slightly off-white lighting shining down on the table where the art is being created (see photo below). This is to make sure the art is clearly visible but is not too stark. I used two different angles for the camera. One angle is overhead at a 90 degree angle. I used this at the beginning of the video when the art is still a "blank slate". Then, I move to a more level and close up angle to get the details of the art while it's being created. The "cuts" mainly correspond with each "step" in the process. I also overlayed text to depict the various stages of thought I tend to have during my creation process. To finish the project, I added some stock audio that I felt helped to convey an inspirational mood. One of the challenges I had was even though the lighting stayed consistent during all the shots, I still had to adjust the levels of warmth and darkness in Premiere Pro. It was difficult to get each shot to match exactly, but I think I got it closer than it originally was. I will keep working on this moving forward. Another challenge I had was to have the music fade out at the end instead of stopping abruptly. I looked up solutions online for this and I learned how to make volume keyframes to gradually lower the volume at the end of the video.
