Year 2000

With the beginning of the new millennium and with the introduction of MDLP technology manufacturers can enter in the market are reduced in number; Kenwood, Panasonic, Sharp, Sony and Aiwa.

With Sony driving brand, only Sharp tries to fight forcefully the market for portable recorders.

Sony entry-level models, from this year, have a housing for a classic AA battery instead of a gumstick.

In January, Sony has two new models of recorders; the Sony MZ-R70 cost reduced derived from R90 and the Sony MZ-E7W Portable MD player with wireless remote.

In February the Sharp places on the market five new models of low-cost recorders; MD-MT50, SR50, SR60, SR70, SR75.

Sony MZ-E77

Sony introduces two new players models, the MZ-E60 and the E77.

MZ-E60 AA battery power.

MZ-E77 gumstick battery, AA adapter.

Both remote RM-MZ2S.

A model each player for JVC XM-PX3, Panasonic SJ-MJ35, Sharp MD-ST55.

In April, Sharp Introduces MD-ST50 player, unit body composed of aluminum and plastic.

In May two new models of JVC - Victor players; XM-PX33 and XM-PX55.

Panasonic SJ-MJ77

Player, available in silver, blue, white, or red

is the first md I found with the front of the machine painted.

In June a new Sony player MZ-E800 with new head loading mechanism.

Anti-shock buffer of 40 seconds.

In July a new Sharp recorder; Sharp MD-MT66 / MT866; the numbering 66 is for the internal market, while abroad the abbreviation is 866.

Utilizes a charge stand for recharging battery. 40 second anti-shock protection. Hand strap. New remote.

Are presented also, two new players: Aiwa AM-CL33 e il JVC XM-P2000; the first portable player MDLP. Alluminium body.

In august presented a new recorder from Panasonic, il SJ-MR200 non MDLP.

In September are presented simultaneously the first two MDLP portable recorders; the Sony MZ-R900 and his clone; Aiwa AM-F90.

First MDLP mode portable recorder. Record-breaking battery life as of its release.

With this new product, Sony repeated "invasion" of the European market as already experimented with the R90 / 91.

Presented new players: Sony MZ-E900 (in my opinion, aesthetically one of the best players ever produced) MDLP.

Panasonic present the SJ-MJ33 player.

In november is introduced on the market a couple of recorders with the same mechanical ; Kenwood DMC-M7R and Sharp MD-MT77 / MT877 MDLP.

MDLP capable. Smallest portable MD recorder in the world as of October 2000. Battery "memory effect" is reduced by automatic discharging circuitry in the charge stand. Can interface with a computer via USB connection kit

Kenwood DMC-M7R. The look is more massive than the Sharp.

The same month, Kenwood introduces DCM-M33 and DMC-M55 player. Both MDLP.

Sony introduces the player MZ-E500, similar to the MZ-E700, Panasonic SJ-MJ88.

In December is presented the Sharp MD-ST77 the first MDLP Sharp player.

In January, Sony offers a new recorder model: MZ- G750 similar to MZ-R700 but includes AM/FM tuner (remote); MDLP capable. G-Protection anti-shock.

Aiwa presents its new player AM-HX77 40-second anti-shock protection.

Sony offers MZ-E300 cost reduced non-MDLP players for foreign (non-Japanese) market

Button layout and LCD located on rear face of the unit.

The headphone jack does not have a remote connector.

In February the new dell JVC recorder, XM-R700, large compared to the now standard; incorporates the features of the previous model, MDLP. The remote is much smaller and less visible than the previous model ( XM-R70 )

Panasonic introduces another player MDLP, SJ-MJ80.

Sharp Introduces the player MD-ST70 MDLP compatible, with the long play mode indicated with colorful illuminated LEDs on unit body.

Sony introduces the MZ-E600 MDLP capability player, remote cord, extra long 40-second anti-shock protection.

In March, Sharp started production of two new models of non-MDLP recorders; likely to the foreign market: MD-MT80 / MT90.

Aiwa presents a new player, AM-HX200, mdlp, all-titanium body (first for Japanese market) with double the rigidity of aluminium.

Panasonic introduces the SJ-MJ78.

In April, Aiwa has a further MDLP player, AM-HX100.

MDLP 40-second anti-shock protection, remote control has 10-character backlit LCD, available in silver, black, and blue.

In May the Sharp comes with MDLP series version of MD-MT80 / MT90; Sharp MD-MT88 / MT99.

Aiwa has a new player; Aiwa AM-HX150.

In June, Sony has a new player: Sony MZ-E501, MDLP. Unit is recharged by placing it in the recharging stand. Available in silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Gumstick battery. AA adapter. Remote RM-MC11EL.

In July Panasonic produces its first MDLP recorder; the SJ-MR220.

Sharp introduces a new recorder, the MD-MT770 / MT880, the two name to differentiate the models for the European market from home market. MDLP.

JVC - Victor XM-PX601

JVC puts into production two new player MDLP, XM-PX501 and the PX601.

PX601 has a very attractive appearance, MDLP.

A small speaker has been incorporated into the charging stand. 40-second anti-shock protection.

Sharp introduces two new models of readers, MD-ST770/ ST888 aesthetically designed with rounded edges and with a design reminiscent of a flower on the front.

"LED Navigation" system uses various colors and blink codes.

In October the Sony MZ-B100 MDLP business recorder.

Kenwood comes up with two new player; DMC-P33 and P55, both MDLP.

Panasonic produces two new readers, the SJ-MJ50 with speaker system that integrates in its structure and the SJ-MJ90.

The classic color of SJ-MJ50 is silver, but I found a red machine without the speakers and another model, MJ59, of which I failed to find news. ( see photo )

Sony produces two new players, both MDLP, both with charging cradle; the MZ-E707 and MZ-E909 with main body of unit composed of magnesium for lightness and rigidity.

Aiwa AM-HX300

In November two new players from Aiwa.

AM-HX300 and AM-HX400.

The AM-HX300 targeted at teenagers and young women in their 20s, users can create their own original MD player by placing a printed film, photo, or illustration inside the large front panel on the AM-HX300's main unit.

Sony manufactures the MZ-E606W Wireless remote control. MDLP playback.

In December there is a new revolution, the introduction of models of recorders that can transfer music directly from the computer to md, with a much higher transfer rate than traditional logging.

They are Sony MZ-N1 MDLP Portable recorder with NetMD interface and the Sharp IM-MT880 / MT899 NetMD recorder.

The acronym "N" used by Sony, appearing in the N1, means that it is a recorder that allows downloading from computer but does not have the jack to connect a microphone.
