EHT is running a fossil trip into Whitmans Hill Quarry near Storridge (just off the A4013) on Saturday 10th October and have booked the hall (and car park). In the hall will be a display of fossils from the quarry, fossils for sale and a display of the school fossil box project as well and teas and coffees. Cradley school already has one of these boxes.
The Storridge Village Hall (WR13 5EY) will be open from 9.30am with the trip setting off for the quarry when all have assembled (probably 10am). Once the risk register has been signed by all adults attending and we have given brief safety instructions we will proceed on foot to the quarry. Once at the quarry I will introduce the quarry, its fossils and wildlife and a more detailed health and safety brief before letting the guests explore the safe areas of the quarry. We will be at the quarry for 2 hours + before returning to the hall with displays of fossils, fossils for sale and demonstration of the fossil box for schools project back at the hall before setting off for home. Whilst you are welcome to leave the trip early should you wish to do so, with a busy car park it’s possible that it won’t be possible to leave the car park until the main group returns to the hall.
The car park is the limiting factor on numbers so as previously there will be a charge of £5 per car or £2 per head whichever is the greater and ensures we cover the cost and any surplus will be a donation to the fossil box project, (we have now delivered 242 boxes to schools across the UK).
Walking boots or wellies are recommended and waterproofs in case of inclement weather, food and a snack as needed and a container to keep your fossils in. Geology hammers are permitted (under adult supervision) and safety glasses must be worn. All children must be accompanied on the trip by a responsible adult and please always keep your child in view. Insurance requirements sadly mean we are unable to allow children below 6 into the quarry.
If interested, please get in touch and I will book you in. Once the trip is full, we may be able to allow additional attendees but won’t be able to offer parking at the hall and if you park nearby please be aware of the busy road in coming and leaving the hall.
For those coming from further afield we can recommend an additional location to visit after our trip is complete.
