The Art Group held its first meeting in August 2002. The year has flown by and the Group is thriving. We regularly have around 14 members turn up for sessions in Storridge Village Hall on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.
We thought that after an active and productive year, we should be able to put on a display of the work we have done. On Saturday, 6th September 2003, the Cradley Village Art Challenge took place and we thought what better occasion could there be to show our work?
On the Friday before the competition, a small band of the members under Ros’ supervision set up the display boards in the Village Hall and hung nearly 80 paintings which 18 artists from the Group had painted in the past year. It was a wonderful effort and showed that the Group was well on the way!
That evening we held a private viewing for the members and their partners with wine and refreshments. Everybody was pleased with the show and John Drummond very nobly photographed every picture under difficult conditions. We thank him for his excellent work. The pictures can be seen below.
The exhibition continued on Saturday during the Art Challenge which some of our members took part, and was on view during the Pub Night. It finished on Sunday midday when the pictures and boards were taken away. Everyone agreed that it had been a great success and many visitors were impressed with the standard we achieved.
So there we are - till next year when I’ve no doubt the 2nd Anniversary Exhibition will be bigger and better still!
